Dehydrated does not work -- buy scoby in liquid
Scoby has not activated nor grown any yeast or evidence of yeast in over a week now. I cannot ship liquids in diplomatic mail, so I was hoping this would work, but alas, it is not. If you're going to get scoby through Amazon, buy one that ships with liquid.

Work as described. Be sure to check your temperature at every step
I’ve recently stumbled into the homebrew hobby because I was tired of making grape jam off 60 lb. of concord grapes grown in a tiny urban backyard every year. Although I am not a huge kombucha consumer, I jumped on the opportunity to try out this line of brewing. After all, the benefits of consuming probiotic beverages/foods are well established. The steps are simple enough. In my opinion, the only precaution is to watch the initial temperature (do not drop the dehydrated SCOBY into a boiling or hot tea! You will kill the living microbes.) and also the ambient temperature in the ensuing 30 days. I ran into some troubles in the latter because it was in the middle of a frigid winter here. My drafty old house often dipped under 65 F at night, far below the recommended 68 F. I had to wrap the jar in a heated blanket. I also occasionally sprayed vinegar over the filter paper that covered the opening of the jar. After exactly 30 days, the kombucha tea is done! I double-checked the tea with the included pH indicator. The tea looked like the day it was made (no mold for sure). The tea tastes … well like kombucha 🤤. I did make a mistake by using double the amount of recommended sugar. That did not seem to impact the fermentation much. The tea tastes a bit sweeter than usual. Since this is only the rehydration process, I immediately started the first batch using the “live” SCOBY. My understanding is that good and healthy SCOBY should be able to replicate itself and produce a baby SCOBY. I’ll declare victory for now.

Both grew mold and doesn’t come with any starter liquid
I have brewed kombucha, probably six different periods of my life and never had any problems with mold, I was disappointed when the Scoby arrived because there was no starter, usually they come with just a little bit, but this one didn’t have it, which seems like it was creating an extra step having to reinvigorate my scoby and create the starter myself. I disinfected everything, kept in the same places as we used to etc and both of these grew mold and smelled terrible.

Works great!
This is my second kombucha scoby from Cultures for Health and I love how easy it is to reconstitute and use. The first one I had was years ago, and we ended up giving it and the other scobys it created away because we had to move a long distance. Life has been crazy since, so we're just now ready to restart making kombucha again, and this one is reconstituting perfectly at 20 days. We've made several other items from Cultures for health and they're always high quality.

The culture didn’t grow
This product was a real disappointment because I bought some of their yogurt cultures a couple of years back, they all grew great and I’m still using the same yogurt cultures today. So when I started brewing kombucha I went right to the Cultures for Health SCOBE, followed all of the directions to the letter, waited patiently and watched as absolutely nothing happened. For a month. It was an emotional rollercoaster. Maybe I just got a bad package, but I bought a live culture from a different company for my second try and the whole thing went like clockwork. I’ve got three gallons going at a time now. It’s some quality ‘bucha. And I’ve grown numerous additional SCOBE’s from that live culture I purchased. Really easily. So I’d avoid this product for now. But if you’re looking for good yogurt cultures, these guys do great work.
