Has anyone tried to staple them to the steps? If so, how do you staple them, ends only, middle & ends or all along the edges?

Why would you staple them? Instead of putting a grit surface with double sided tape, save yourself the hassle and order Handiramsps aluminum tread. They are much easier and took me about 30 seconds to install. ASIN B006T15VZ8

Has anyone tried sticking this to the bottom of leather-soled dress shoes? Do they hold up well?

No, but that just sounds like a bad idea. It's like sandpaper on the bottom of your shoes. You'll end up scratching floors. They make specific products for leather soled shoes.

Will this adhere to a garage floor that gets slippery when wet?

If the floor is perfectly clean and dry when you put it down, then probably. If not, then no. I have no problem on a wood slanted surface outside that gets frequently wet. That's actually why I put it out there. My guess is that it would adhere to a horizontal, solid surface as good, if not better than to wood.

approximately 0.030" ... that's about the thickness of 6 sheets of paper
