Jet

JET. Enjoyable and entertaining action packed romp.
Good fun yarn, enjoyable and entertaining.Maya, code name Jet, is a former Mossad assassin and the best in her league but yearned for a new life. She fakes her own death and moves to Trinidad. Old demons come back to haunt and force her back into her old life and alter ego. She is ruthless, efficient and will stop at nothing to complete her goal. There were some unexpected twists along the way and some I saw coming. My only minor frustration with this book was the gun model references, I don’t know what the various makes and models are so I had to google them each time they appear which was often.Enjoyed this so much that I’ve bought the second installment 👍🏻

PLATINUM
If I could be any superhero in the world, I would definitely be Jet, from Russell Blake's series. I usually read either contemporary or historical romance. I came across this book while searching for another book, and I was drawn by the title and the cover. After I read the description, which compared the character to Lizbeth Salander and SALT, I decided it was a must-read. I'm always interested in reading about strong, Alpha women (or WALPHAS) as I like to call them. The first JET novel introduces us to Jet, a woman skilled in hand-to-hand combat and almost every weapon under the sun. She also knows seven languages and she's drop-dead gorgeous. And for all you skeptics out there, hell yes this is believable to me. Nobody batted an eye when James Bond did it. I love me some Ian Fleming, but if he came up against Jet, he probably would have pissed his pants.Jet is no ordinary chick. She's been an operative with the Mossad, where she carried out some questionable duties under the guise of battling terrorism. It all got to be too much, and Jet faked her own death years before so she could "retire." She's now living comfortably in Belize, soaking up rum, sun, and living the life of an incognito owner of an Internet café--or at least she is until some Russian thugs try to decapitate her one night. Jet knows her cover has been blown, and from there, it's on and popping as she kicks ass, fighting her way out of Belize, and leaving a trail of bodies as a parting message. The novel takes us on a series of twists, turns, and explosive adventures as Jet finds out who's been trying to kill a woman who was already presumed dead. I love the concept of this book. I love the plot. I wouldn't mind some more bedroom scenes (hey, I'm a romance reader), and I love the language in this book. The author uses a lot action-packed verbs that kept me on the edge of my seat. Not only did this book feed my need for blowing up stuff and getting revenge on the bad guys (you have to see the villain, Grigenko), I also loved the development of Jet's character. She's the kind of heroine you can really pull for. I felt her pain and her joy. She's a woman of compassion, but she's a cold-blooded killer when she needs to be. That dichotomy of personalities was so interesting to me. I wanted her to succeed in her mission no matter what. What I liked best about this book was the ending was not a cliffhanger. It ended with a subtle tease, which let me know Jet's story hadn't ended yet. I was so intrigued, I immediately bought all the other books in the series, JET II, III, IV, and V. Also, I can't wait to see if Jet locates the daughter she was told died at birth. If you do nothing else this year, at least read the sample for JET and see what you've been missing.

Fun and fast-paced
I recommend reading this book when you can devote a few hours to it and finish it all in one gulp - otherwise, you'll still end up finishing it all in one gulp, but there will be babies crying, dogs barking, chores neglected, and food uneaten as you frantically race through the pages. The style reminded me the most of the Bourne trilogy (as suggested in the blurb). We have an extremely competent assassin: a female character far more strongly developed than one would normally expect to see in this genre. We have international shenanigans, scary bad guys, cool weapons, and clandestine government agencies. The writing was very tight, and as I said earlier, I was very impressed with the lifelikeness of the main character. Blake managed to create a ruthless assassin who still feels realistically human and also manages to be a sympathetic character. Descriptions were evocative without being tedious, and there are enough logistics and details (e.g. what kinds of weapons they used, how they get from point A to point B) to give the reader a good flavour of setting but not so much that your eyes start to glaze over. The only aspect I wasn't crazy about was how the story jumped around in time and place, but I recognize that these were all important for the plot and/or backstory. My brain is very linear and I just have a hard time coming into and out of the main story line.So basically, we have an intriguing premise, lots of action, an interesting main character, and last but not least, very good writing. Oh, and it's free. What's not to like? I'll definitely be reading more in the series as time (and budget) allows, and will be checking out some of Blake's other works.**Review originally published at Lector's Books**
