Better choice and more accurate than the 100XE meter
I had originally considered getting the analog 100XE Meter, but the more I looked into it, I observed some drawbacks in the areas of accuracy, reliability, readability (of the data reported) and product fabrication quality. 15 years ago that meter would have been a good choice, but more suppliers have come on the market since then with engineering, performance, ergonomic, and usability improvements. Other than the tri-axis EMF sensing head, these are all really repurposed multimeters. I estimate the cost to built the simple 100XE far below the asking prices, and overpriced for what you get. There are at least two versions of the LATNEX digital LCD display meter with multiple resellers. I chose the version with a USB port so I can save test data to my PC. It came with a readable manual, a case, short USB cable, CD with software, and a 9VDC battery. I like that it can show readings in either Gauss or Tesla values with autoscaling, Max/Min, and data logging. Only con is no backlight so bring a headlamp or flashlight to read it in dark areas, (but no light also means a longer battery life). The one bought was: EMI Magnetic field gauss Meter detector MG-2000TD Triple Axis Professional use with Datalogger EMI from MRI Machines Industrial and Medical Equipment Power Lines and Appliances EMF inspections

My First EMF Meter
I think Im inpressed with this MG-2000T. I said I think because Im new to this type of meter. Ive heard and read alot about EMF meters. But never seen one in person or used one myself before. I almost ordered one of the Bell-4190 gaussmeter’s but I figured since Im new to type of meter I would try something less expensive at first as well as Id have a second meter to compare reading later if and when I upgrade to a Bell. Im really more interested in locating the sources of the electro magnetic fields causing interference with distributed audio video equipment. Rather than the actual accuracy of the reading on the meter. In the first hour of having this in my hands I was able to learn the basic of the MG-2000T. And locate to linear transformers pluged in behind some furniture that was emitting high EMF and replaced the transformers with switch mode power supplies to illuminate the EMF‘s in that area. After further investigation. I found that the stud space adjacent to the transformers was were the distributed audio trunk line for one end of the house was ran. After changing those transformers out for switch mode power supplies the humming in speakers was almost completely eliminated. On that side of the house. So locating the source of interference alone I feel paid for this meter ten times over. As for features of the MG-2000T... Pro: The ability to switch between Tri axis and single axis. In Tri axis mode it display a combined total reading of X,Y and Z axis’s together. Good for finding general location of EMF sources In single axis mode it displays readings for each axis individually. So you can see three sensor readings all on the display at one time. Making it easy to pinpoint the location of EMF sources. When you recall a reading from memory it stores both Tri axis and single axis readings with date and time stamps. Theres a Min/Max setting. Good to walk through a building to come up with A general reading. Con: There is a hold button and it does work. But there is not a back light display from what I can tell. Making the MG-2000T difficult to use in crawl space’s and attic’s Would I recommend the MG-2000T..... A big YES for any A/V technician that does any kind of troubleshooting. Also the The MG – 2000T uses inductors instead of Hall Effect sensors. This maybe a bad thing if you need to locate a DC EMF source. I haven't had it long enough to test DC.

Homeowner can do without
It's OK enough - still would like to find tables to get real scientific measurements as to what is considered "unhealthy". Canada appears to regulate EMF exposure - need to research more. Nothing in our house was a big deal. EMF, like any other potential health risk, has been used to ramp up FEAR in order to sell these types of instruments and consulting that goes along with it. As an environmental consultant, I am hard pressed to find very many circumstances in the home (1987 vintage here) that would warrant a home owner to buy one of these instructments. In fact, I can surmise that the one I bought has been to a few homes via Amazon and returned after buyer measured plugs, TV, PC, meters, etc.

User friendly
Great for checking EMI in an area where inductive loops will be installed. I own 3 now for all my teams.

Good instrument up to now
I need more time to evaluate this instrument, but it is OK up to now. I am not very sure about the accuracy. Tell you later what I found.

Easy and Quick EMF Readings
This handheld EMF meter is lightweight and quick and easy to use. I had difficulty learning how to correctly operate the device at first because the manual that came with it was poor quality and not easy to read but I received a fast and efficient response to my complaint from the company. The model is higher priced than several others on the market but I don't have a direct comparison to make regarding those units.

Three Stars
The small wire connected to the battery can break easily after replacing the battery after several times.

A good intermediate LAM Gauss Meter
We purchased this product for the purpose of recording :LAM (Low frequency alternating current magnetic fields) for the Project Native EMF blog we run. This product is very easy to use and comes with two main reading options, milligauss and microtesla. We predominantly use this product to measure the LAM fields of both traditional and electric cars. We have found it to be very consistent with its measurements and due to the Tri-Axial detection mechanism it can be pointed in any direction and at any angle without a huge variation to the readings. It comes calibrated very well as we have compared it against other DC/AC Magnetic gauss meters and the reading only vary about about 3%. However its accuracy does decrease as it gets very close to the source of the field and in that regard it varies by about 20% in comparison to more expensive officially calibrated gauss meters. However due to the fact that most readings are concerned with the fields emitted further than 5cms away, this variation is less significant for most purposes. The meter is slightly larger than most alternative options however it comes with a convenient carry case. The display is also large and clear and uses LCD reflective technology and therefore the clarity increases with ambient light. It however does not have a backlit option and therefore is not great when used in the dark. We would rank this as a good quality intermediate LAM gauss meter however there are cheaper single axis gauss meters out there which are reasonably accurate and therefore useful for simple personal use.
