it gets the job done plus for a great price and great quality
Lovely cup! It came very well package and obciously handled with care.bHandmade in Vermont, so don't be expecting a Japanese made chawan, but it's function is still applicable! A little "tall" and narrow for a chawan that I'm used to seeing from the traditional handmade ones, but as I said, it gets the job done plus for a great price and great quality. It has a beautiful look to it (I purchased the Partial Turq Mix), and it's nice to know that it has a lead free glaze, which makes it stand out beautifully. I love it!And those of you looking for an authentic Japanese handmade here on Amazon, it'll be near impossible. First, of most of the "authentic Japanese handmade" chawans that I've seen are obviously not authentic for the low price range of $10-$20. High quality authentic ones will cost you about +$100 and the even higher/highest quality being ranged $230-$1000. The cheapest authentic Japanese handmade one you will probably ever find will be around $50, and sometime $40, but never less. Also, you can see if a chawan is authentic because it will have the artist's name on the bottom of the bowl. Most will have a picture or depiction on a side of the bowl, this would be the "front" of the bowl. If it has no picture or depiction of some sort on the bowl than the side with artist's name will be the "front". If the signature is directly on the bottom in the center, then you know it's not authentic; it will generally be off center to indicate a "front" of the bowl.

Super quality Chawan for a great price!
This is a very high quality Chawan! It looks and feels great, the craftsmanship is superb and the colors are gorgeous. I didn't give it 5 stars because it was a little smaller than I had hoped it would be. Other than that it is a great product for a great price.

LEAD FREE & MADE IN THE U.S.A. - BOUGHT A 2ND ONE TODAY!
I bought one of these chawan matcha tea bowls last year and liked it so much, I just bought another one today. Thank you for making a product that is lead free AND to also advertise that info in the product description. As I mentioned to others, if any company's chawan bowls are guaranteed to be lead free, they should include that IMPORTANT info in the product's description. Customers should not have to keep posting the same question over and over again on all of these product's pages, with resellers answering for the product maker. So, because of that I refrain from buying their products, as it raises doubts. It's the perfect size for mixing and sipping my matcha...definitely big enough, so when you whisk, the contents stay in the bowl. This bowl may cost more than some of those other chawan bowls (that don't indicate on the product's page as being lead-free), since I use mine all the time, was willing to pay the extra cost to have the peace of mind that it is indeed lead free. I also like the fact it's made in the USA.Namaste

Beautiful perfection.
It's so beautiful and designed to be perfectly cupped in your hands as you sip the velvety matcha . I am happy that they are made in the USA by artisans in New England and lead free. The glaze forms a beautiful pattern- mine looks like mountains in the evening- so peaceful. It arrived quickly and was packaged protectively. The bowl was worth the price. It provides more than just a bowl for matcha- it provides a peaceful experience when I use it every early morning. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I will probably get a couple more so when friends are over for tea they can enjoy the beauty of the bowl as well as the comfort, revitalization and lift of the ceremonial matcha. Btw. After trying several ceremonial grade products we have all agreed hands down that Jade Leaf organic has absolutely the silkiest, freshest, brightest green, organic, best tasting ceremonial matcha of any one. Worth every penny!

A great handmade bowl for a great price
This bowl arrived quickly, but it was safely packed inside an attractive box. The combination of the shiny, almost iridescent glaze at the top with the flat navy blue at the bottom makes for a great combination. It's really amazing the quality that went into the piece for this price, my bowl is just as perfectly crafted as the one in the picture. It's also important to me to have a bowl which is free from lead or heavy metals which this piece is while most other matcha bowls come from China- and they probably don't regulate what goes in their clay and glazes. If you zoom in on the picture you can really see the quality of the glaze, it's especially evident in the blue-cream accent mark but also the perfectly smooth piece as a whole. A handmade piece like this never depreciates in price and would cost much more if purchased at a retail store, that's why it would make an excellent gift for anyone interested in tea, Japan, pottery, or just quality housewares.

beautiful matcha bowl
Very well made, beautiful matcha bowl. Perfect size. I wanted to get a bowl made in the USA, since many are made in China, and this Vermont made bowl was perfect. A good, fair price for a high quality, hand-thrown bowl. I got the blue bowl and it's a rich, multi-toned glaze. It's very easy to make matcha in this bowl, and it makes a wonderful gift. (Be sure to follow instructions for how to make matcha. You don't want to fill the bowl to the top. I start off by making a wet paste with the matcha, then I add about two ounces of water and make a froth with my matcha whisk. Then continue to add hot water, or milk, until it's the desired strength.) Highly recommend!

Really nice look and feel. Just about perfect. Cool stuff from WJC Pottery.
The matcha bowl is beautiful and very well made. The glaze is smooth and I like the glazed WJC logo on the bottom. I'm a bit disappointed that the diameter of the bowl is 4" instead of the stated 4 1/2". The larger diameter would make it a bit easier to mix the tea. Overall, I'm still very happy with the mug and am glad I bought it. I was trying to decide between 4 and 5 star rating. I realized I am so much happier with the look, the feel, and the quality of the chawan than I am disappointed with the smaller diameter. Definitely a 5 star item. If only there were a matching whisk stand!!
