I made my own doner kebab with 1kg of freshly minced lamd and some seasonings. The rotisserie could easily handle around 1.5kg of doner on it. Although another reviewer used the excuse that this product can't hold a "Tesco's chicken" that is in fact not true at all, even though he used that as an excuse for returning the product because he changed his mind. Please ignore the review claiming that Tesco's chickens don't fit inside this as my pictures include a whole "Tesco" medium sized chicken. I was tempted to get a large chicken but because of that review I opted for the medium sized only to discover that a whole "large" chicken can in fact fir inside this rotisserie. Cooking a whole chicken is easy and although the instructions clearly say one should use "butcher's string" to tie the wings and legs it is not necessary as the wing tips can be cut off and the legs are simply put inside the loose skin after holes have been cut into it. Although the kebabs cooked well I did have an issue with the first whole chicken but it was nothing to do with the rotisserie. I had made the mistake of coating the chicken with a dry BBQ rub and it burnt the skin but not the meat. So, if cooking a whole chicken one must remember to either marinade or use a wet rub. Overall I am very imressed with the performance of this product and it will be regularly used. It does take a couple of minutes to heat up but once heated it cooks really well. This is a good quality product that will last a good few years if looked after so I am recommending it as it does deliver good value when considering it's uses and a whole large chicken can be bought and cooked for less than those sold in the supermarkets, with ones own flavours. So far I have done beef shish kebabs with bell peppers, a 1.5kg lamb doner kebab a whole medium chicken and a whole large chicken, in addition to a 2kg joint of toprump beef. Howevev, one must be aware that there is no temperature control with this so keeping an eye on what is cooking is important. For shish kebabs this is great but anything else and you must remember to regularly coat the cooking food with liquid otherwise it will burn. It is simple to keep the outide of meat moist when cooking as when the door is opened the heat shuts off but the rotisserie continues turning so one can use a large spoon / serving spoon to use the juices from the drip tray.. If you like BBQ then stop wetting the meat during the final 10 to 15 minutes and the meat chars to give a perfect BBQ taste. **Q: Hey, would this cook a roast beef? Or is it just for chicken? Also if it does, can it cook other meats as well? Thanks 😊** A: Hi We have just done whole chickens, chicken kebabs and pork kebabs on ours. Not tried beef but might give it a go. Everything we have cooked has been super tasty. With the whole chickens we smear butter under the skin and they come out lovely. **Q: Do you cook with the door open or closed?** A: As this is not a commercial gas fired kebab rotisserie the door must remain closed as it could be a health risk otherwise. Basically, the rotisserie works as an oven with an open element for browning. Leaving the door open means the heat will be escaping thus even after a couple of hours a chicken would be well browned but undercooked inside thus a serious risk of salmonella, which is rife in poultry and pork. Additionally, any harmful bacteria will get inside the door and survive thus being free to multiply rapidly and increasing the risk of food poisoning. **Q: How long does it take to cook skewers with meat?** A: That would really depend on which meat is used and how it is prepared. A good example would be beef that is 2" cubed taking around 20 minutes whereas lamb that is also 2" cubed would take around 15 minutes as lamb needs less cooking due to it being best when slightly undercooked rather than being fully cooked. Chicken should be given a little longer as should pork as both of those white meats must be fully cooked to make sure there is no risk to salmonella poisoning, of which both chickens and pigs carry the bacteria. The rule is simple, the thicker the meat is the longer it needs to cook and one should also consider any fruit / vegetables that are used for the kebabs as fruit and veg can burn easily. Regardless of which meat is used this does produce very good shish kebabs and also makes good doner kebab. If cooking whole / half chickens or joints of any meat one does have to regularly baste the meat to prevent a burnt outside and undercooked middle. The drip tray can be used for basting as the juices and fats collect in it. I usually prep a baste before starting to cook, use the prepped baste during the cooking and during the last part of cooking I use the juices gathered in the drip tray. Should you make a doner kebab carving is not easy as one has to open the door, carve a few slices, close the door, rotate the rotisserie a bit then open the door and carve again.
