The chilling movies produced by the Hammer Films studio have been scaring audiences worldwide for decades with their use of ominous and supernatural elements which foretold the coming of doom. Relive the chilling fear with some of their best classic stories in the Hammer Horror 8-Film Collection showcasing monsters that helped shape the modern day characters we love to be frightened by today. Featuring Brides of Dracula, The Curse of the Werewolf, The Phantom of the Opera, The Kiss of the Vampire, Paranoiac, Nightmare, Night Creatures and The Evil of Dr. Frankenstein, it's absolutely a must have for the house of Hammer horror collector! Review: Horrors, Adventure, and Psycho type thrills are all in one set! - This is a great set of Blue Rays at a reasonable price. If you are a Hammer fan this is the way to go. I know that there has been debate on the film ratio. All I can say is that it did not come across is any kind of hinderance to my viewing pleasure. The DVD set of these films was a horror in it self for me as I had to get 2 sets to be able to see all of the movies. Universal did a terrible job with the DVD set and the discs would skip, stop, and digitize on certain movies. The Blue Ray does not have that problem. Now for some info on the movies. Evil of Frankenstein is a favorite of mine. Peter Cushing makes for a swashbuckling Baron in this one which shows a heavy influence from the 40's Universal horror movies. They even have the Monster frozen in an ice block. Well photographed and directed by Freddie Francis. The Phantom of the Opera was supposed to have Carey Grant is the Phantom. He pulled out and Herbert Lom did a credible job in the role. Hammer spent a lot more money than usual on the film and it did not light up the box office. Terence Fisher directed. Brides of Dracula again Cushing is here in the role of Van Helsing. Wonderful stuff this movie and it all comes together for a fine evenings fun. There is no Dracula but the Vampire in this story is not a bad replacement. A classic horror with out a doubt. Curse of the Werewolf another classic by Fisher with a young Oliver Reed in the lead. Hammer's only foray into the Lycanthropy genre. Great production and a well done tale. The Kiss of the Vampire. Two honeymooners are terrorized by a coven of vampires. Well done film not in the normal set up for a Hammer film which helps make it more fun to see. A real classic vampire film. Night Creatures is a swashbuckling pirate movie based on the tales of the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. Disney was also doing a version with Patrick McGoohan in the lead. Peter Cushing is in that role here and as usual he does an excellent job. The film is not a horror movie but is a good action movie from Hammer who did several of these. Paranoic and Nightmare are excellent examples of the Psycho genre of film. Both of them are in black and white and I enjoy them very much. Both deserve a viewing and I believe you will want to look up Hammer's other titles of this sort they made more than a few. Review: movie rating - good movie, good condition

Great Collection, Better Price
This set looks awesome. It arrived in a timely manner in perfect condition. There are 8 movies on 4 discs in one Blu-ray case. I popped in the discs to check out quality and the scans look great. You can’t beat the price normally $35 but I picked up on sale for $19.99 or less than $2.50/movie.

A Great Deal!
8 films for $12 is a heck of a deal. Out of the included movies, 5 were good, 2 were meh, and 1 was horrible. That ain't bad. If I had one complaint, it's that 3 films weren't even horror movies. That said, my favorite, Night Creatures (a very misleading title), turned out to be one of those. If you like Hammer films I'd definitely recommend this set.

UNIVERSAL did a great Job on the HAMMER FILMS 8 films blu ray set
UNIVERSAL did a great Job on the HAMMER FILMS 8 films blu ray set I’am only reviewing 5 major films out of the 8 films set. Here we go…. BRIDES OF DRACULA Great transfer from a IB TECH original master neg. Cropped a little bit from top and bottom hardly noticeable . EVERY BODY is in frame. Rock steady picture, sharp clean audio sound and lush color.a little grain because of the IB tech neg. Overall amazing looking. CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF Great transfer from a IB TECH original master neg. Cropped a little bit from top and bottom hardly noticeable . EVERY BODY is in frame. Rock steady picture lush color muffle audio in some areas of the film. Bad news the entire girl’s bedroom scene when reed first turns into the werewolf and kills the girl, audio is out of sync. Lips are 1 sec. before the audio. Overall amazing looking. Also UNCUT. PHANTOM OF THE OPERA Great transfer from a IB TECH original master neg. Cropped a little bit from top and bottom hardly noticeable . EVERY BODY is in frame. Rock steady picture, sharp clean audio sound and lush color. NO GRAIN here. Remember how grainy the laser and the standard dvd was . not this time, new re-work master here. This is a smooth amazing picture.and has the full eye scene restored. EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN Great transfer from a IB TECH original master neg. 18:5 FULL 6/9 HD TV frame . EVERY BODY is in frame. Rock steady picture lush color muffle audio in some areas of the film. NO GRAIN here. Remember how grainy the laser and the standard dvd was . not this time, new re-work master here. This is a smooth amazing picture. KISS OF THE VAMPIRE 18:5 FULL 6/9 HD TV frame. This is not a IB tech master neg. it is a IB tech clean print And sometimes it looks like an up-grade HD VHS. GRAIN is all over this film, meshy looking picture. Rock steady picture, sharp clean audio sound and lush color.

For the love of the truly best
If this is something that you like then get it. Physical copies are becoming more and more rare, but right now the prices are lower than they have ever been, so go for it. It is better to physically own the things that you like because then you can watch them whenever you want, and if you have kids or ever do end up with kids, you’ll be able to show them the fantastic things without having to worry about them finding stuff you don’t want them to see.

The price is really the first thing that I like about this product: you get eight movies at a considerably affordable amount of money, knowing that it's not always easy to find the best version of a classic in high-definition. The selection of the movies is random, as you get vampires, a werewolf, a monster creation from Dr. Frankenstein, a ghostly Phantom, mysterious "marsh phantoms of the night" and mentally fragile victims who are being plotted against. The HD transfer, along with the enhanced DTS-HD Master Audio and the available subtitles, make it really enjoyable to watch. Brides of Dracula (1960), perhaps one of the finest vampire movies, is my personal favourite from this collection: the story is really neat, the cast is perfectly selected, Yvonne Monlaur looks stunning and Peter Cushing delivers an exquisite performance (pretty much as always, really). Paranoiac (1963) and Nightmare (1964) are two very good chilling thrillers in the tradition of Hitchcock: they look especially better because they are in Black & White, with great performances by Oliver Reed, Janette Scott, Jennie Linden and Moira Redmond. These aforementioned movies basically make my Top 3 Favourites, along with The Kiss of the Vampire (1963) - starring Jennifer Daniel -, The Curse of the Werewolf (1961) and Night Creatures (1962) - both starring Oliver Reed and Yvonne Romain, and with a really great performance, yet again, by Peter Cushing in the latter -. One of my favourite movie collection!
