No hay mucho que añadir de los pasteles Mungyo. Son extraordinarios. Un buen equilibrio entre firmeza y suavidad, y muy pigmentados. Trabajar con ellos es una delicia.

Good packaging and good selection of colours - this is my first time doing oil pastels and the way the product goes on the mi-teintes canson paper is an absolute joy - the marks are beautiful and creamy. I am finding the experience very satisfying and enjoyable. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because I am using it in conjunction with Sennelier pastels for finishing touches. It is an excellent companion to the more expensive and creamy brand. I’ll update this review with the progress on my autumnal landscape.

Mungyo Gallery are fine oil pastels made in Korea. I have been on an oil pastel kick lately so I have purchased many types. Here is a breakdown -- Pentel - smelly, hard, basic brand, not creamy, some artists use them for color lay down. If you need super cheap oil pastels, they're ok. Master's Choice from HL: These are supposedly made by the same factory that makes Mungyo Gallery in Korea but they are a bit less pigmented than Mungyo Gallery. I would still use them as a base layer. Paul Rubens Haiya - I have the 72 set, these are creamy, oily, sticky, build on top of oil pastels but a bit harder to work with as they're sticky and can ooze oil in warmer months. They are shaped like Sennelier but not quite the same. Paul Rubens Hitoto - I purchased this 48 set of Macaron colors and then returned it, they were creamy but not particularly more pigmented then what I already owned. Meeden Round Oil Pastels - I have the 144 set of these. They are creamy, have so many colors, but surprisingly some colors that were in Mungyo smaller 72 set were missing here, like an extra bright magenta. They are a nice oil pastel but Mungyo Gallery gives me opaque color in one swipe, and these take 2 swipes. I think Mungyo Gallery just has the right amount of hard/soft combo that they can be used as base or for layering and Meeden leans creamy. If I had to pick between Meeden and Mungyo Gallery, I would lean just slightly more towards Mungyo, but I haven't been able to find a set bigger than 72 at a reasonable cost. Meeden Square Oil Pastels - Having a square oil pastel gives a bit more precision - these are lovely - creamy, pigmented, not too soft and very nice but the largest set available in the square pastels is 48+4. Jieso available on T e m u - These are creamy and pigmented, but I will probably not put them above Meeden - also available on the same site, they are very close though and pretty great. Blendable, creamy, and available in a set of 144+ extra white sticks. So if you can get them for cheap on one of those discounts that this site keeps handing out, get them. Lightwish - I have not tried the new version but the older version I had was very creamy and also opaque like Mungyo. They literally felt like oil paints in a stick as the laid down pretty thick and matte. They also layer beautifully and blend nicely. I honestly cannot find anything negative about these and some shades are simply beautiful. They are softer than Mungyo Gallery and much more sticky. They are stickier than Meeden. There are some beautiful muted shades available in lightwish. I have the 72 box and I like the collection of blues for the sky. OK back to the Mungyo Gallery. They have some of the best packaging. It really seems like a premium set, rather than some brands that are just rolling around in a cardboard box (Paul Rubens!). The colors are well thought out and a good mixture of hard and soft to offer precision and control while building an art work but also allowing one to blend and layer. They blend like a dream but also work as a base coat. They layer pretty well too, but there are some softer oil pastels that help with more of an impasto technique. Unless you like a particularly soft oil pastel, this is a good go to set. I have uploaded some very simple art I have made with this Mungyo Gallery set. The last picture I have here of the 3 petal magenta flower, I was trying out Meeden oil pastels but it was hard because I just didn’t have the right shade of the bright green and the right shade of the magenta in the 144 set, so I ended up using the colors from this Mungyo Gallery set. I was just copying from a reference photo. In the 4-5 pieces I have made since I got into oil pastels I can already see myself getting a bit better with this art medium with the help of this set, so go ahead and take the plunge!
