It is cotton backed and waterproof. Its bascisally the standard "athletic tape" you would purchase for pole vault poles, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, etc.

how much I there in a roll is there a inch or 12 ?

This is single roll of tape. its about an 1-1/2'' to 2'' wide and I would guess it would be about 30 feet in length wrapped around the spool. Hope this answers your question.
