Strawberry Begonia (Saxifraga stolonifera)

It's so hard to tell from a photograph what size or quality of plant you're going to get, and at $10 (not including shipping and handling) I put this on my wishlist for a few days and did some more research on the plant and whether I could find it locally to avoid or at least minimize the costs involved in getting it here. No dice. But, I reasoned, Dave's Garden forum says this plant spreads readily to make a nice ground-cover,and it should be easy to divide and propagate over the years. So, a few days and a couple glasses of wine later (nothing like questionable on-line purchasing decisions), I pulled the trigger. And I'm glad I did. The plant came this evening, and was both very timely and very well packaged and the root-ball was nice and damp. I find it is not in the nature of plants to thrive in a shipping box, so anytime I order online, I expect some jet-lag. With that in mind, I was really pleased with the over-all condition. The plant has slightly fragile stems (like most begonias), and we lost a few in shipping, and it'll need a few days to bounce back. But it's already a big enough clump that it could actually be (carefully) split into 2 smaller clumps, and from what I've read, the plant sprouts new growth very readily from the root-ball. Assuming it thrives as I am expecting, I think this will be a really great value. I will update with success or failure, but for now I'm very happy with this purchase.

It is a beautiful large plant. It came very quickly and it is so large. It is doing great and can't wait until it puts out it's little runners. I had these at my kitchen window for many years up north. I plan on having it hang at my kitchen window again here in Florida. It looks so nice when the baby plants are hanging.

I received a cutting from a friend long ago and grew a nice size plant from it, purchased this one and it's doing fabulous, would absoulutly buy again, would be a great gift, they are such an interesting plant, have mine in a window that gets filtered light ;-)

I thought this plant would be small and not potted. It was medium to large and in a plastic pot wrapped up excellently and looks perfectly healthy. Still moist too. I highly recommend Gardensoyvey.

Update...one month now. Very slow growth, but still healthy and alive.Bushy and healthy. Very well packed. Looks like a 2 gallon pot. Seller very nice. Good job Wolfgang !!!Thank you for doing it right.From Marlene in Miami 😎
