Great little handheld sewing machine for smaller, simpler sewing tasks (for a good price)
Too many small sewing jobs piling up around the house and we needed something to help out. Searched online and eventually found this Singer Stitch Quick. Battery operated, handheld, has an actual bobbin, and the online, well-made video instructions via YouTube was the final selling point. The included printed instructions are OK, decent quality, BUT the online training videos have been all the difference between defeat and victory for getting all the pants around here finally hemmed in a presentable way. We would recommend that you practice on some throw away materials before trying on your vintage pieces! It is a little finicky at first, but once you get the hand of it, it works good enough (for us). Is it a substitute for an expensive floor machine? Well, no, but we don't have room for that, nor do we need that apparently for what we are doing. Ours came with all the parts and has worked great on several small jobs, AND most importantly, didn't cost us an arm and a leg.

Passed the initial test very nicely.
The first job for this new little guy was to add additional fabric around 3 sides of a california king sized blanket while it was on the bed. It did it and did a great job. I had a bit of a learning curve, but overall, this machine should turn out to be a very useful tool around the house. I encountered a couple glitches. It's not clear if it was the machine or operator error, but they were easy to resolve. A couple of times the machine stopped on me for no apparent reason, but I was able to get it back on track. Also, there were a couple of times when the thread unexpectedly broke. I was able to get back up and running once I paid particular attention to the proper threading of the machine. It's a choppy little operator, but the stitches are smooth, even, and secure. I look forward to more projects and becoming more comfortable with it. Good purchase.

Old dude gets his first sewing machine
Purchased this for a hobby that isn't clothing. Over the years I would simply hand stitch stuff as necessary. But, being an uber gadget-guy, I finally asked myself why I was spending and hour hand stitching when a machine would do it in a minute. This handheld Singer Stitch Quick+ is an awesome gadget. Out of the box it was fully assembled, threaded and apparently tuned. There was scrap piece of cloth still inserted in the foot which suggests that it was tested before shipping. My first try at machine stitching was successful but clearly the work of an amateur. A couple more practice runs and I was starting to impress myself. Nevertheless, while the included instructions are comprehensive, I found the wording difficult to easily understand. There are some good instructional videos available online and they were quite helpful when in comes to threading, spooling, how to use the accessories etc. Accessories included attachments for bobbin winder and spool extender, a threader, extra needles and two extra bobbins (white and black thread). I like this little machine and while I don't need to stitch all that often, my chore will definitely be more easily and quickly accomplished.

Dangerous
It may be just the one I received, but it is dangerous. Do not follow the instructions in the manual, could cause harm because the locking mechanism can easily come undone. It happened to me a few times. Lucky, there was no fingers by the needle when this happened. My suggestion: do not install the batteries until you are ready to sew. The instructions did not provide good instructions on how to install the batteries, so you may have to try a few times to get it right. The one I received had been opened and used by someone else. It was not in it bag, with only one side of packing material. The needle was bent. The instructions failed to state there is a little hole below where the needle is to be inserted, while holding needle, first place the needle in the hole the attach to the needle holder. Second, it said place the flat end of the needle on the right side of the machine. Okay, which is the right-side of the machine? After getting everything straight with the machine, it would not sew a stitch. I believe the tension regulator was broken.

Recommended with Reservations
Needle that came installed in the machine broke within a few stitches. I loaded one of the replacement needles it came with, and even running it through the sample fabric that came with it, the replacement needle broke too. I loaded yet another of the replacement needles it came with, and that one broke within a few stitches also. None of the needles are marked with Singer’s logo - not the one that comes loaded in the Singer sewing machine nor any of the ones in the replacement set that ships with it. I have ordered Singer needles to see if that makes any difference and will adjust review accordingly. Also, the thread that ships with this set is just okay, breaks easily. UPDATE: Went from 1 Star to 3 Stars, but with reservations 1) The needles that come with this are garbage and are NOT made by Singer. Replacing the needle with a Singer needle fixed the issue of the needles that came with it continuously breaking. 2) The thread that ships with it is also low quality and can break easily. Setting the tension on the lowest possible helped but didn’t completely solve the issue. 3) In general, it seems like the tension needs to be at the minimum setting with most threads (which is the moment the tightening screw latches in). Would be nice if the unit had a small light underneath to make it easier to see where you are sewing. I would consider this okay for very light work, but it simply cannot compare to an actual sewing maching.
