You don't need too but to me it makes a difference. They look great and I love the black handle. The black handle is a high quality make and conform to my hand nicely. Weight is perfect for the knife. Shipped in a nice well protected box to keep the knife from damage. As with any good knife, hand wash and dry immediately.
