For deep tighter waves section your hair into smaller sections, bigger sections of hair for loose light waves. You can also use more or less pressure when you clamp the tool on your hair, for example, I use less pressure and less time when closer to my roots so they don’t get that weird straight line at the top of my head and then as I move down I use more pressure and hold it a few seconds longer.

Use a light coat of texture spray before and after and comb through your hair with your fingers to separate the waves and it won’t be frizzy.

Use a volumizing power in your roots after so that it doesn't look flat compared to the rest of your hair. I also pull the tool up and away from my scalp when I am at the roots so it gives it a bit of volume.

Will it curl straight hair?

Yes. I have the blue version of this and when I crimp my fine pencil-straight hair, it stays. It all depends on the prep of your hair. A good heat protectant and having next-day hair, or applying a good dry shampoo to give it some texture, will make the curl/crimp stay. Also, keep the heat low. Most styles can stay with just 375-degree setting. A good flexible hairspray will also help.

How does this work?

Section a length of your hair and work this tool down the length, crimping one section of the length at a time. Unlike a curling iron, it is "top down" and not "rolling up".  I have shoulder length hair and I love this tool!

My hair just looka crimped and frizzy. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, Thank you for your question. The Bed Head Wave Artist Deep Waver can provide a beach wave look as well as the crimp look. If you are looking for a more relaxed look we would recommend trying to work with larger sections about 2 '' and/or holding the iron in place for less time. Thank you.
