The sound is sweeter with more clarity. I gave it a few hours of playing over the course of several days to get a real feel for the differences in sound. Specifically, the WA tubes are somewhat bright. I wanted preamp tubes that would let my instrument's sound come through without much coloration. Both my tubes have been in now for about 12 hours of playing and are holding up perfectly. I was a little surprised at the quality of the Chinese tubes. The stock tubes lasted through around 50 hours of various styles of playing without failure. If you're on a tight budget and need to know if you've just HAVE to replace the Chinese stock tubes, I'd recommend keeping them until they go out on you. However, if you are in the same boat as me, and wanted a little higher quality sound from your VHT amp, these are great tubes. As a side note, preamp tubes can be mixed and matched without trouble. I have a very interesting 2 10 Fender amp. The cab is half of a flood damaged Super Reverb and the chassis is a highly modded Bassman Ten and 2 10 inch Eminence Legends and biased at 42.7V. JJ's and Ruby's makes it sound shrill and Groove Tubes are junk. These Sovteks make the amp sound full bodied and tempered.
