It Will Bring You Home Safe, In Due Time
Compared to my old Tom Tom XXL, the learning curve is much more difficult, but after that it works great. Be aware that it is not ready to use out of the package, you need to charge the battery before you can do anything. When you charge the battery off the USB port on a computer, you cannot operate the device at any time. For use in an automobile, the unit comes supplied with a cable equipped with the old cigarette lighter connector. That worked fine with our 2006 Toyota Highlander but, on a recent trip we rented a Mazda CRX5 which did not have a cigarette lighter port in the front console. It did have charger ports for iPhones and lap tops but useless for the Garmin cable. You can order a different cable from Garmin but be aware of the problem if you have a newer vehicle. On the road, the unit does a good job of navigating with very fast "recalcuting" directions. We live in the mountains of Western North Carolina where the roads are very twisty according to mountain terrain. It seems that all brands of navigation devices tend to take the nearest Interstate route, however in the mountains, sometimes you can't get there from here. The Garmin, just like my old Tom Tom, will finally get you to your destination but you may not like the route. The Garmin Drive 60 has a lot of features that my old Tom Tom did not have so overall I like it a lot better.

The touch screen icons are perfect, finger-size--no fine pointer pen needed
Screen size is ideal. (Smaller screens and too large types are both annoying. ) My former, smaller one had touch-screen keypads so tiny, an extra slim, fine point screen pen was necessary to enter text to desired locations. (And I have small hands/fingers!) Same with page icons--nearly impossible to hit one without also clicking others.. This is the most user friendly, easy to navigate, and clear, easy to follow GPS. It is my 2nd Garmin. My first was a smaller Garmin. Then bought a Tom Tom, and despised it so much I bought this 3rd one by Garmin. I'm more than satisfied with this Garmin; it exceeds my expectations.

typical garmin, works very well, just slightly off in accuracy, but minor
i did the update before a long trip.. update literally took several hours............ THAT, i find a bit of " you gotta be kidding me ?" kind of issue. i have fast internet, but the device/web site stated " this may take several hours"... so be prepared to have that kind of time for a big update. OK. it DID update.. plugged in the address ( 710 mile trip ).. and left.. went on a couple of different roads i normally hadnt travelled ( not a complaint, it was actually an improvement ), and got me where i wanted to go, with little issue. coming back, slight change in my route, as i wasnt heading back to where i had started from ( work, not home).. again, no issue. it showed a few small side streets as not existing, or not connected, streets that have been around for some time, and shouldnt be "missing", even without any update. BUT, other than that, and again, only a minor error here and there, over all, its a solid 4 out of 5 stars. maybe slightly higher. shows nearby gas, food, lodging as you get close to them, will "ask you" if you want to stop ( you can just decline the reminders ) for gas or food/lodging, shows you school zones, and speed zones. it was "Off" in a few places, as the speed zones had been updated and Garmin didnt have the current ones in its system update, meaning the zone was higher than Garmin was registering. not an issue, unless you are a true " i only go the speed limit" kinda person......... Overall, i like this Unit. size is " just right" to see all i need to see (6" screen). touch screen is easy to use, inputting the address is a little issue, as it wants to only look for states immediately adjacent to where you are, for the address you input. i was going 700 miles, so i had to re-input the address a few times, to figure out how to get it to register the correct State i was traveling to. No paperwork came with this, so actual instructions might have helped. but again, not a "Note worthy" issue, I just had to figure out what i was missing, in my address input. once done, takes you where you want to go. it doesnt have live traffic updates, which might be a nice upgrade, as i got lucky on no real issues, other than construction that is just unavoidable on the trip. i would recommend this unit. just make sure you update long before you go, and practice inputting addresses if you are going on a really long trip. otherwise, it is fairly simple to use, for modest distances.

Surprised Me - In A Good Way!
I hated the original Nuvi we had. It must have been made on a Monday as it was always problematic. Finally it couldn't find major cities in various states so it was time to toss it. I was dead set against buying anything made by Garmin after our Nuvi experience but found there weren't any other companies making GPS units that had such good reviews. Against my better judgement I ordered the Drive 60. I have to admit - I love it. It works just as I had hoped it would and is so easy to use. People have complained it has a dark screen, but you can adjust the brightness, so that hasn't been an issue. The touchscreen works with a light touch (not like the Nuvi) and makes inputting information a breeze. If you too were a Garmin Hater like me, consider giving them another chance and buy the Drive 60. I think you will be very happy you did.

Never lost again!!
Love the huge screen and easy to setup. Didn't like that it did not have the built in camera. Had an accident where the other driver ran off after 4 minutes. So that is a big loss from GPS. Also liked the ease of use. Wasn't happy with delivery. Amazon's delivery is awful. Won't ever use them again.

Okay, not great
tl;dr -- okay, not great. Still better than any smartphone-based general purpose alternatives I've tried. Works as expected, i.e. at the level of a fairly incompetent human navigator who only drools on themselves a little. That's a huge step upwards from the Google Maps app for Android, which approximates a bumbling idiot human navigator who also happens to be a brain-damaged sadist (and is differently brain-damaged on different devices). Pros: -The 'Real Directions' feature is actually pretty handy, giving landmark-based directions that occasionally help. -Showing a detailed view of certain tricky traffic structures alongside the big-picture route map can be useful -Hosting the maps locally in internal memory cuts out a fair bit of the lambda associated with other navigation solutions (faulty SD cards, spotty cell data connections etc.). -Driver alerts are actually handy, and they don't interrupt navigation -The Garmin Express app works pretty seamlessly to update device firmware and maps with minimal user intervention. Cons: -My main complaint about the Garmin so far is that in ten years of hardware revisions, they still can't make a decent capacitive touch screen. The screen doesn't seem to support multi-touch or fling gestures at all, and has the terrible software scroll up/down buttons-of-shame common to budget hardware from the 1990's. Browsing/re-jiggering routes on-device is a small nightmare, with pan gestures dropped after only several drag points are gathered. The map will also sometimes zoom after a pan gesture is 'completed' for some reason, presumably because it can't support pinch-to-zoom gestures and ...? Not supporting pinch-to-zoom is annoying, but would be acceptable IFF they had relegated zoom ONLY to the awful zoom in/zoom out software buttons hogging much of the top of the UI, and left the stuttering drag detection to panning. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. -I was mildly disappointed to see that the detailed view of tricky maneuvers was only a rendering as opposed to rendering on top off a photographic image; this made the detailed view feature less useful since the rendering didn't match up exactly with the real traffic structure. -The default address lookup, which doesn't let you specify city or state, is almost useless. I let it search for several minutes and return several hundred results for the house number/street name combo (which is all it let me specify) before I gave up on address lookup and simply typed the entire address into the general search bar; after filtering for my state, this latter search actually produced useful results. I've no idea what format they expected the address to be in, but I apparently guessed correctly. This made for an extra step that was time-consuming, confusing, and unnecessary.

Be Patient...
Finally got around to using this..it has many features I didn't know about. (Warning about speed and even a Traffic Camera notification for the Red light cameras) Be patient when you try to use it for the first time. Garmin.com has all the updates (plus extras at no cost if you wish, such as the kind of avatar you use) READ the directions, If you just plug it into your computer and try to download the updates, you will just have a blank/black screen. Plug it into your car/vehicle first, turn it on..Then disconnect and plug it into your computer. And yes, it does take a long time to download, depends on your internet speed...but it WILL download. So far I am glad with this purchase.

But it may be too much asking for Garmin to satisfy their customers by supplying a device that actually works
The Garmin Drive 60 could not be charged with the original cables that came with it. I got an error message stating that charging is not supported. Please use the cable that came with the device ( which I did). Then I updated the software via Garmin Express hoping that would fix the problem but it didn't. The provided cable is only a measly foot long (the one for the car is longer). Tom Tom's cable is almost 5 feet! I wish Garmin would actually test each device individually if it can be charged using the cables provided. This is a problem that was also reported by other customers. But it may be too much asking for Garmin to satisfy their customers by supplying a device that actually works. If you can't charge your GPS, it does not function! I got a TomTom Go 60 and their supplied cable is not only longer (to make it more user friendly but it also lets you charge the GPS which is what a charging cable is supposed to do. I had to return the Garmin back to Amazon.
