Is this heat gun the same one as the Hero Arts heat gun? Thanks!

I have had mine for a week. I purchased it because I wanted Jennifer McGuire’s heat gun. It gets EXTREMELY HOT! I’ve had a Martha Stewart heat gun for 3 1/2 years, and it worked okay, but I really wanted better embossing results. This is warping my paper (after preheating for 10 minutes) and melting plastic. I’m thinking there might be different model numbers for the Wagner. Best of luck, but I hope you’ll find a heat gun that works well for your crafting needs.

Would this work outdoors to heat shrink crimp on wire connectors in cooler weather, or will the cooler incoming air mess with it.

YES. ABSOLUTELY. Received mine today. When it reached 658 degrees F, I used it to melt a HUGE glob of solder to test it's true heat value and to test whether it is good for desoldering. So, it will probably burn off your insulation of your connectors it you put it too close, or hold it on the connector longer than necessary. I did not try to see if it gets hotter than the 658 deg. F. It might. I quit testing when it did what I got it for.

Will this melt solder to replace a surface mount IC?

It should work. I was able to reflow a circuit board with one of these, it definitely gets hot enough to melt solder from a couple of inches away.
