What is the little tray for that is located on the upper left side?

As stated by others, it's intended to be used to hang it from a nail or hook. But I'm certainly not going to hang mine from that flimsy little thing. That piece of brittle plastic couldn't last for long.

Is this scale good for bakers?

I purchased this food scale to baking for my kids , they like to help me to scale these ingredients ,the tare function and the ability to switch units of measure is great for me because you don't have to dirty up many measuring cups.

Does this scale come with a rechargeable battery, if so what type?

There is an internal battery that is charged via USB. It can also use 2 AAA batteries. I have never used AAA batteries. I charge with USB & it holds the charge for months. I probably use the scale a couple of times a week.
