A: It is not cotton.  It’s a type of “microfiber”, not terrycloth like a towel.  I think this would serve its purpose for your daughter.  I have two kids and we use it at the beach all the time.

**Q: Does this fit a size 54 waist?**
A: I think it would, I laid it out flat and it measures 35" per side from seam to seam so there are 70 linear inches for fabric in the circumference.

    Nice poncho but I expected it to be heavier and thicker.

This is a nice poncho/toweling robe, but I expected it to be made of terry cloth, but it feels more like a thin velour, and I thought it would be thicker and heavier. It also seems to run a bit small.  I am a smaller woman and find this a bit tightfitting and smaller cut than I expected, and I do not know if it would fit a man, but it is very comfortable, dries quickly and is easy to clean. I have enjoyed using it post daily swims and will likely buy another one so that I can switch them out.
