4.5 SWEETLY SAD STARS1
A tough marine who looses his whole family returns home for the funeral. In his self imposed solitude a sweet school teacher takes hold of his hand, no words are exchanged but the need for this marine to have this small town school teacher with him is evident.I have to admit tears were shed in this sweet love story but no sooner had they fallen they were soon replaced by smiles. A wonderful short story about loss and love.

I did enjoy this story. I thought it was heart breaking and utterly sweet. But there were also words missing from sentences and it just kind of puts you off your stride when reading.

fun and adorable to read
I love the whole series so far...I'm on the 5th one. These are fun and easy to read and the guys are so loveable....Who would imagine that these big hot men would all fall for the sweet shy cute and somewhat bookish men. Sweetly written and delivered HEA...Great that the next leads are written in at the end. A pleasure to read

lots of grammatical mistakes - be prepared
Not a bad story, although there was no real excitement and the grammatical mistakes were many and varied making for a bit of a stilted read. Sweet but a little far fetched. Losing all your family will take a lot longer than a month to get over. I'm going for book 2 and hopefully the writing - or at lest the mistakes in the writing will, be fewer.

Emotional but it works!
How do u survive losing your entire family in one accident? Alvin had to cope with that and a USMC discharge. His life over as he knew it.Then in steps Carter, this had me in tears in more than one point, loved and laughed at Maddox,If u enjoy a quick read with hea, then you'll love this book.

My first read from the author and whilst it was quite sad it was an enjoyable story. It would benefit from some proof reading.

Amazing
An amazing book. Don't think I've cried so much during a book either. Will definitely be getting the next book and probably all the ones after that!!

Good Plot but poorly edited
I liked the story and where it was going. The timeline was a little all over the place, one minute it had been days and the next it was only yesterday something happened. The connection between the characters was good but honestly the spelling and grammar left me disappointed. Not sure if I'll get the next one. I'm no editor but I would love to fix this book!!!!!

A lovely tale of a surprising hero, and the true love found !
An exceptional tale of strength and love ! Our hearts ache for Alvin, 29, big, tough, tattooed Marine, as he reflects on his Dad, Mom, and twin sisters, who were killed by a drunk driver. We feel his pain. Nothing he has done has hit him as hard as losing his beloved family. In addition, he is separating from the Military life and returning home. During the memorial service, a lone man comes and sits beside Alvin; holds his hand when needed, and not a word spoken, just the silent support of a stranger. Sweet, lovable, Carter, a small guy, is a teacher, and has know Alvin since childhood. Carter was the nerdy, gay kid, while Alvin was the jock. Carter has crushed on "out-of-reach" Alvin. Carter understands what Alvin is feeling, his own dad passed away. He wanted to be there for Alvin like someone was there for him back then. It was the least he could do. Carter was the fortitude Alvin needed to get through this, and beyond. Their sexy times are sizzling and surprising. This is an amazing, insightful, important, and relevant story, that brings us tears and smiles. It's beautifully written in both men's POV, by Jenny Wood. This book is #1 in the Unlikely Hero series. Shorter stories packed with deep emotion, terrific characters, and a fabulously timely topic. There is so much more I could say, but I want you to read it for yourself, to see the progression, passion, and love.I highly recommend this truly marvelous book. Each in the series can stand alone, and we get happy endings. ENJOY !

Great Series, Terrible editing so be warned, if you don't mind that so much the books were fabulous..
Don't Leave Me Alone: Unlikely Heroes, Book 1. Prepare for incoming rant...[So, first things first: If you don’t mind poor, sloppy editing (and that’s being kind because at times it was a real pain and very distracting), but love a really good story, then you’ll enjoy this book and this series despite the numerous written blunders.I don’t know if Ms. Wood self-published this series, but the Unlikely Heroes saga suffered from chronic editorials, wrong grammar, missing words, wrong names, and a savage shortage of comma’s, full stops, and paragraph layering. It was annoying right through-out the entire series and in all fairness to us readers it was something that should have been revisited, because the books have been available for more than a year, so there’s been ample time to clean house and proof-read, edit and republished the stories with the needed changes. It’s more than a crying shame it hasn’t happened and frankly infers a real lack of care. ] End of rant.Normally as outlined above, crappy editing would have been enough to turn me off completely, BUT the saving grace for this entire series was the wonderful plots, the absolutely fabulous Heroes, and the amazing secondary characters that were all brought together inside fast paced plots, believable story lines and the romance was smoking hot: ALL brilliant. So what’s book one about? Alvin Harris is home from military service and completely devastated over the sudden and tragic loss of his entire family following a motor vehicle collision. He’s a man who is now all alone.Showing up at the funeral as a means of showing his respect is Carter Jensen, small town teacher, he’s a bit flamboyant and been known to lack a filter sometimes when speaking. He’s spent his entire life secretly crushing on Alvin. He steps in and supports Alvin in his time of need.In the weeks that follow the funeral, Alvin starts training to be a fire-fighter while he muddles through mourning for his lost family. Carter on school break, has time to spare and seems to understand how lost Alvin is, makes it his mission to ease the way by taking care of Alvin. It’s a recipe for something amazing to come from such loss and almost in slow motion these two wonderful men forge a bond that sees them fall head long in love. It was a really wonderful romance and all the characters, both main and secondary were engaging, interesting and thoroughly believable.Despite all the glitches in print, the story was so good, it made me want to read then next book in the series, so I did, then I wanted the next one…. Right up until the last book and while I did rant, I NEVER regretted buying, yep that's right buying, or reading the books.

So many tears
This book gutted me. It's a beautiful and sad story about two men finding love in the wake of personal tragedy. It is a truly special tale and I'm exceedingly glad I read it.As I have said about this author before, the book needs an editor. It's the only thing that stops me from giving it five stars. Please know that you should take the time to look past the grammar and punctuation. You will be rewarded.
