Grill Tongs, 17 Inch Extra Long Stainless Steel Kitchen Tongs

I originally bought these to replace the tongs that came with a barbecue tool set. There was nothing technically wrong with the old ones, but they were just a bit too short, which meant I was forever getting my hands far closer to the heat than I wanted and even get burns on some occasions. These solved that problem immediately and another that I hadn't even thought of. As they are longer when they open the ends open up that little bit more wider than the shorter pair would, and this makes it much easier to get the scourer right into the ends and makes them so much more easier to clean, and a great little added bonus. At 17 inches long, these are perfectly suited for the job as they give you plenty of distance from the grill without feeling awkward or difficult to control. In fact, I found them easier to use than my previous pair because the gripping end is slightly larger and does a better job of holding food securely when turning burgers, sausages or larger cuts of meat. The build quality is also noticeably better. The stainless steel feels thicker and more substantial, with none of the flex that cheaper tongs often suffer from. They have a premium feel in the hand and look like they will last for years of regular use. Another thing I appreciated was the locking mechanism. On my old pair it was always a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it would lock, sometimes it wouldn't, and you had to force it into position. These are much smoother and the lock works properly every time, making them easier to store away when not in use. £10.99 might seem a little expensive when you're only buying a single pair of tongs rather than a full barbecue set, but the quality difference is obvious as soon as you use them. Better reach, better grip, smoother operation and far better construction make them excellent value in my opinion.

Tested these out at our world cup bbq - brilliant. Very useful, long enough so you don't get burnt yet still easy to flip food and move the grates etc

Yes great tongs- longer than a usual pair so hands are further away from the bbq heat. Easy to grab food with- tension perfect, not to stiff and not to loose. A sturdy item and very easy to clean. They look good too and are made of tough metal. Well worth the price.

Perfect length, weight and material. I like the grab as well and do the job perfectly for me. They look nice too. A bargain for two! Locking mechanism is so easy and convenient to use, the grip is as it should and i think they're nicely design to last long time.

Good length, nice and light. Bought myself a pair and they'll bought my brother one due to them being worth it.

I have regularly used the smaller of these tongs for about 4 years and they have been wonderful, but they (The smaller ones) have now fallen apart. However - I happen to be very very clever and I have repaired them (See photos). What broke was the rivet holding the thing all together, so I have replaced this rivet with a brass screw and washer. Sounds simple, but to do this you need to compress the spring or you would never get it installed. What I used was a short piece of 1cm tubing into which I pressed the screw. A bit fiddly but it worked. The tongs will now last for ever! If anyone should try this it would be a great help if you didn't completely dismantle it, try to leave the old rivet in place which is actually keeping the spring compressed and then you can guide the new screw into place.

One star lost because it could ‘feel’ more robust but function, grip, appearance and locking mechanism all good at a reasonable price point.

These things saved my hands and arms from the flash heat of the bbq while turning sausages and hotdogs. Good quality and the push/pull unlock/lock works good, they don't randomly spring open and stay closed when they're supposed to. Well worth the decent price. Hoping to get years of use out of these

These are actually quite good value for the price. I actually didn't buy them for a bbq or any food related reason... I actually bought them to get clothes out of my new top loader washing machine because once the machine stops the cycle you can't spin where the clothes are to get clothes that have landed at the back. They do the job for that so I am happy with them.
