Unputdownable as a child and rereading these tales today is even better with the hindsight of later years.A most charming child's world still recognisable beyond the social changes of today and a time when a ball and string were enough to invent a game of movement and excitement without a single electronic toy in sight. Bar a train set, maybe.The enchantment truly comes to light when read to children, as our dad did to my brother and me, interupted by our dad's own infectious laughter.
