This is a fabulous pen and well worth the coupla bucks it costs. It is described as claret and gold. The claret is a dark red and black. It is very classy looking. The snap on cap (as opposed to screw on) is pretty heavy. It messes witht the blanace of the pen when capped, but without the cap, the pen is perfectly balanced. It writes smoothly, and finely (I am not fond of a medium nib and this one truly is fine). It comes with a converter which by itself is usually more than this pen costs. The nib is hooded, so you cannot replace the nib, in case you are wondering. The pen arrived in 3 weeks. The pen does NOT come with ink. Most fountain pens do not, and this one is no different. For ink, I do not recommend the jinhao cartridges, but suggest you use the converter and buy yourself some Noodler's ink. You will be well pleased. Do NOT buy artists ink or any other liquid ink that is not made for fountain pens--they will clog the nib and put an end to your pen. Review: A Good Pen That Might Need a Little Work - I just received my pen in the mail today. I opened it up and saw that the pen looked just as described in the picture; everything looked great on it and the hooded nib looked awesome. The only ugly thing was the converter. It still had some leftover plastic inside the hole of the converter and it caused the converter to not fit properly inside of the pen. Luckily, I had an extra standard international converter lying around from my Nemosine Singularity. I popped that converter in and started writing. After a few sentences the flow cut off completely. Confused, I un-screwed the pen and primed the feed. It started to write again for another few sentences and then the flow cut off again. This time I emptied the pen completely and ran A LOT of soapy water through it and then let it air dry for a bit. After sometime, I inked it back up and now it's writing just fine! The nib is smooth and writes fairly wet. So, YES BUY THIS PEN, it's and good price for a surprisingly quality pen. All the other photos I've seen of the 9009 show the nib fully exposed.** A: There are two 9009s...the fine nib, which is hooded, and the medium nib, which is fully exposed. I have both. **Q: Can the hood be removed to allow a replacement nib to be installed? Or can the nib be replaced with the hood in place?** A: No, the hood cannot be removed. I have not been able to replace the nib though it also has not needed to be replaced. **Q: Does cap hold onto barrel-end OK while writing? Just got my 1st Jinhao (a 250) and cap doesn't grip, falls off easily.** A: I usually don't put the cap on the barrel while writing but I just checked mine to see if it would stay on and it seems to without a problem. It has been my experience with fountain pens that it is not really a good idea to put the cap on the barrel end as it can mark the pen and sometime leave a residue. I already have ones that I write with regularly, but are either basic/plain or just simply cheap but write great (for me at least). Now this is a cheap pen in many ways. If nothing else, only because this pen will cost you only 1/10th the cost of any pen with the same looks but hand crafted quality. But beyond cost, when you get up close to it you find it light weight and of generally made of lesser materials. Kind of like plastic, though I will say the top has an impressive weight to it. Almost 100% of the weight is in the cap. So for those who want a serious counterweight to their pens, well there you go. I also have to say mine came with a very nice, twist / piston style converter. Much better than I've gotten with even more expensive pens. For those of you who want this pen for writing... I did try it for a little while, however it did not catch my fancy. Which is a bit of a shame because that also looks like a far more expensive pen with how the case comes most of the way down the nib so that it is nearly hidden. Now I did go through a whole cleaning process to get ready for my first use of the pen. It may just be me, but I always feel new, mass produced pens will often have just a bit of residue from the assembly process, so rather than fight with the pen to get things working, I just do a complete clean and prep before starting out with it. Though at one time I just stuck a cartridge in and started writing, watching to see what came out... Anyway, having done my normal prep all I can tell you is it worked just fine. Just not as good as the pens I write with all the time. So this pen ends up being just what I bought it for - - eye candy.
