At first, I was a little reluctant to spend that much on what I thought was essentially a heavy-duty freezer bag, but after watching some of the product videos I realized how clever and solid the design was. I had also planned a week-long trip to the beach later in the summer and figured that I would be unhappy without beach reading, and even unhappier if I damaged my Kindle because I wasn't willing to spend $20. I was also sold on the layer of padding, which would give a bit of protection.To make a long story short, the WaterGuard case did everything it was supposed to. After watching the video on how to operate the power switch on the non-padded version, I soon got the hang of how to do it with the padded one and found it to be very little trouble to manage. I also found it easy to get the Kindle in and out of the case (this is important because I read with my Kindle every night using a cover with a built-in reading light, so leaving it in the waterproof case even if I'm going right back to the pool the next morning isn't an option). At first I thought I wouldn't like the strap and considered taking it off, but I soon realized how handy it was, especially when I was at the beach and needed to carry my chair down to the waterline for reading.Speaking of the beach... the WaterGuard case let me read with my Kindle on the beach, and not a speck of sand or drop of water got in, even when I sat practically in the surf. I did have to regularly wipe the accumulated salt spray off the plastic so I could read through it, but the Kindle itself stayed clean and dry. Despite getting sand on the outside of the case several times, there wasn't any noticeable scratching or scuffing of the plastic after I carefully dusted it off.So, while the case did not go through the ultimate test of being dropped in the ocean, it has been smeared with ice cream and sand, and liberally sprayed with water. I feel that it has done its job and been well, well worth every penny spent. I routinely recommend the WaterGuard to everyone I know who owns a Kindle, and would do the same here. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Couldn't live without this!! *by E***A on Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2014* These are the best!! I have had no problems with these covers & I have had them in the ocean & the pool. They float if you drop them. I also use this almost every night in the bathtub. I have used this with my kindle & my fire with no issues. I'm giving this 4 stars because I have to buy a new one every summer because the plastic strips that "ziplock" the kindle in, break off. Maybe from so much use but it's still frustrating. I've been using these for about 5 years & swim frequently during the summer in a private pool. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Did what it said it would do *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2011* I ordered this for my vacation as I received a kindle for Christmas. Last year on vacation my book fell into the pool and I had to wait until it was dry to try and read it again. I didn't want to make the same mistake this year with a higher priced book (kindle). So I searched on line to find something I could use. What Best Buy recommended was no longer available. People had mention that this product was like using two zip lock bags. I did not that to be true. I was also able to use the power button as it left me with enough room to wiggle it around. It did float.
