Hello, while adults could use these, the packaging, flavor and quantities are designed for a child's needs. An adult starting with oral probiotics would want to take 2 daily (at night) but a child only requires 1 per day. So, these are a less expensive option for kids and a flavor better suited to their palates.

Did anyone find it strange that there was a silica gel pouch in the tub?

they are often used in medication bottles to keep pills dry. You may safely remove it as long as you keep the bottle tightly closed when not removing a pill
