This exquisitely detailed Polish Hussar from the 17th Century is entirely hand-painted and made of plastic. This action figure is armed with a lance, a sabre, "koncerz" (a kind of sword) and a pair of pistols, protected with plate cuirass, "krawasz" (part of Hussar's armor protecting forearm), and a basinet. Measures approx. 6"L x 2"W x 6.5"H Not suitable for children under three years of age Regular Hussar units (coming from Serbia) appeared in Poland at the end of the 15th century. At first, it was light cavalry equipped with lances, sabres and shields. The unit played an important part in many battles of the Renaissance period (Orsza 1514, Obertyn 1531). In the second half of the 16th century Hussars transformed into heavy cavalry and since the reign of the King Stefan Batory (1576-1576) they were basic type of cavalry. At the turn of the 16th and 17th century, Polish winged Hussars were unrivalled in Europe and gained greatest victories (battle of Byczyna 1588, Kircholm 1605, Kluszyn 1610). Increasing role of firearm limited their significance and made them cooperate closely with other types of troops. Their last spectacular triumph was the battle with the Turkish army near Vienna in 1683.
