Discovery Products Carbon Off Cleaner (19-Ounce Can)

Since the election vote count will be going on for another month, I decided to take a break and clean the baked on varnish from several stainless steel cooking pans. The results are amazing. See the accompanying pictures. I rarely get excited about a product but this product, “Carbon Off”, is one that got my attention. I have tried a number of products that claim to loosen the baked on Carbon (varnish). Almost all of these other products required a lot of elbow grease, and they required multiple applications. Because I was so disappointed with these other products, I had said to my wife, Jo, that we should do basic research and find a chemical that would loosen the bonds between the baked-on carbon and the metal of the frying pan. After some 'YouTube' and Internet research, I purchased a spray on version of “Carbon Off” from Amazon. It is a spray on gel that loosens the carbon that has been baked on the pan. I followed the directions, spraying the “Carbon Off” product onto a medium sized stainless steel fry pan. I tested it after it had set for 30 minutes by pushing the gel around with a stick. The carbon was loosened. I decided to let it stay on overnight, and I also sprayed the product on to two other larger cooking pans. The next morning I rinsed off the “Carbon Off” gel, and I cleaned the pans with a scotch bright pad. I used a toothpick to poke the gel and gunk out of the crevices. The carbon / varnish came off with very little elbow grease. The pans were very clean. I then used some metal polish to shine them up. I highly recommend using Carbon Off”

Yo, this is the shiznit. For real. I thought it was quite a bit of money, but my desperation won out over my frugality. My wife can throw down in the kitchen, but she is not gentle on my pots and pans. There was a slight moment where I thought maybe we couldn’t cohabitate if she was determined to keep disrespecting my Le Creusets and Staubs. Okay maybe it is a bit much to get a divorce over pots, but those pots were expensive. Anyway, I’ve tried every concoction and home remedy to get the black grit off the bottom of my cast iron skillet. I was successful with a lot of effort, an entire weekend, and some vinegar and baking soda. But within two months she had the pot blacker than ever. And my vinegar-baking soda scrubathons no longer worked. In comes this stuff. Smells like straight ammonia. So I advise keeping a window open. I sprayed the pan in a cardboard box. An hour later and the black gook came off with a wipe of a napkin. I should have taken before photos. I didn’t take pictures until my second coat. But imagine the whole bottom and the sides of the pan were completely black. Yeah this stuff works. It deserves every star. Get it. It saved my marriage.

The pan I tested this product on was in bad shape. It was a $200 pan that really wanted to see if I could resurrect the non-stick again. I tried it as a last attempt before throwing the pan away. I used it on half, let it set overnight on 1 half. Sprayed again in the morning and wiped and rinsed. It really removes the carbon. IMPORTANT: It seems to have eaten right through the non-stick surface as well. I didn't see a ** do not use on non-stick ** warning, so it might be good to get other peoples reactions to this. ** Don't get this stuff on your skin... it burns. And DO NOT Breath it! Even if you wear gloves the mist from the spray can settle on your arms. I washed mine with soap and water and it was fine. I see people mention the can only works once, then gets clogged. 1. Shake well 2. When you are done, tip can upside down and spray for a few seconds to clear the material out of the nozzle.

I have always struggled to get the oven door clean after self-cleaning the oven overnight. I suppose I should have cleaned the glass first before the self-cleaning but I didn't know. This sticky stuff turned black and absolutely not moving with a magic eraser, "Krud Kutter" and a plastic scraper. When I first got the ovens installed, I used a sponge with a scratchy surface and scratched the glass accidentally. They replaced the glass and warned me not to use anything abrasive. So a few years later, frustrated with all the gunk on the windows after the holidays, I tried again to clean them and tried this Carbon Off and voila! It worked like a charm! Stunk like anything, and had to ventilate the kitchen. Only left it on for about an hour before it wiped right off! I wish I took photos! I wasn't sure it would work. It does! Amazing, and thanks for making this potent stuff! I'm going to buy more for the grill! Whee!

Worked!! I burnt my brand new cooker that my mom bought me pretty bad. Let it on the stove when making milk pudding on high for over 30 minutes :(. Was heartbroken to see the thick layer of burnt stuck very strong and thought will never be able to use this cooker again. Tried all scrubs, easy-off oven cleaner, but nothing can budge this burn even slightly.. (btw, easy-off works great for everyday use and I continue to use it for stove top lighter burns, etc). Then found this carbon-off. It was a but pricey, but I thought worth the try if it can save my cooker. And it did !! After 3 tries that included 2 overnight soak and a bit of scrubbing in between tries, got my cooker back as good as new !!! Pictures can speak for itself. The scent is pretty strong and I did have to do it outdoors. Since its a spray, I didnt wear gloves, but recommend wearing one atleast when rinsing off.

Expensive and does not work as shown. My stainless pots had some normal deposits on bottoms .Some carbon came off needed a second application and steel wool to get final amount off ,Better off with steel woll and elbo grease .

This stuff is awesome on stainless steel. Don't use it on anything painted or teflon'ed, will take the paint/finish off including painted pots and pans. If you got carbon buildup from cooking or burnt food deposit, this is your product. Spray on, let set for a bit, then lightly brush it off with a brush and watch the crud scrub off, no hard physical exertion. Make sure to wash pan afterwards due to chemicals involved and use this product in a ventilated area, does have a bit of strong ammonia smell that will zing your nose.

I purchased this to clean years of carbon build-up on my iron skillet. I followed all the directions carefully, using extra precaution with goggles, gloves and a large bucket of fresh water near by. All work was done outdoors, where fumes could easily dissipate. This will definitely work, but it takes considerable time. Plan on spraying it on thick and letting it sit someplace safe overnight (I locked the skillet in my shed overnight to prevent any critters from being injured). While a significant amount of carbon did come off there's still about 40% left after two treatments. Possibly the gel-based formula would penetrate better.
