The Krups served me well for a low-end machine but it had a number of shortcomings, which is to be expected given the price point. I did the requisite research... Google... Amazon... a few culinary web sites etc. Personally I find Amazon to be the most helpful with reviews. The many web sites out there usually have the disclaimer that we may get a commission bla bla bla. Say what you will about Amazon but the reviews are much more helpful. My decision came down to a couple of slicers but I went with this one and I'm very happy with my purchase. The directions are just ok, but there are enough 3rd party comments, YT videos, etc to help me through. The motor feels very powerful. It's quiet too which I like. The overall construction is very beefy! It's a heavy machine so be advised if you plan to lug it around the kitchen etc. The product table and slicing guards (flip down arm, two shields) feel very safe to me. I'm not at all concerned from a safety perspective when I'm slicing meat, cheese or bread. Finally, some reviews complained about cleaning difficulty. I'm kinda surprised because I thought tit was pretty easy and straightforward. Remove and wash the product table and center plate. Use the supplied brush to knock out the little bits of food under the blade. Wipe down the blade and machine surfaces with a warm sponge. Dry and put it back together. Kinda easy at least to me. I slow-cooked a rump roast on my Kamado Joe and then tossed it in the fridge overnight. I sliced it today to make deli-style roast beef. The thickness control knob provides plenty of control. I did some slices that were like the shaved/wafer-thin style from the deli. Cool! I thickened up a tiny bit to make thin-sliced roast beef. The cutting surfaces and blade all worked just perfectly.
