Review: Excellent sugar substitute - I’ve been using date syrup since the beginning of my first pregnancy, it’s been two years and have a scheduled delivery because I go through a bottle so quickly. It has practically no flavor after you try it a few times. It’s like molasses, pours like molasses or honey, but it’s not as intensely earthy like molasses or honeys unique flavor. It’s delicious, I eat with plain cheerios, in smoothies, on deserts, even in savory foods. It’s replaced sugar and sugar alternatives completely. It wasn’t my intent, but that’s where I’ve come to. It always arrives on time and it’s absolutely worth every penny. The 3lbs of syrup is perfect, because the bottle is a decent size but not to heavy that you don’t want to pick it up. Like any sticky substance, you’ll get some drippage, even honey does that. This stuff is still just as delicious and infant friendly if you want to introduce sweetness to your little one but you’re avoiding sugars.

I already knew I liked dates. Smoothies, and other blended treats were tried and true favorite uses. Although I'm not saying you should binge eat all the sweets, maybe (like me) this is a middle ground you can get with. It's a natural, organic, small business made sweetener that satisfies. I heard the business owner on a podcast I listen to, had to give it a try and have now purchased more. I've tried everything under the sun natural and artificial. Nothing replaced sugar for me as readily as this without me feeling like I had to use a ton of it and/or accept a subpar flavor in recipes. I've been looking for an alternative to sugar with this kind of consistent result. The biggest clincher was when I used it to pickle onions and my family went nuts for them, even more so than usual. The flavor is full bodied yet somehow neutral. The sweetness isn't cloying or too intense. A serving (1 tbs) at around 50 calories is even too generous for some applications. It's been great in every recipe I've tried. I find myself using LESS sweetener and being more satisfied. Again, not that it's ever healthy to over do any kind of sugar (we can't kid ourselves) but I appreciate that it's full of trace minerals and that the process of making it doesn't refine the dates into a less nutritious product.
