Does it plug directly into an American plug?** A: The plug on this is deceptive. It looks like a typical 110 American plug but this unit actually runs on 220. I wired it up right and it works great but you need to fix the internal leaks or it will flood the control board on the first use. See my review on fixing this design flaw. **Q: They say not to use with an extension cord. Why not if it's the same size cord?** A: Look. I have this device and I'm using it with an extension cord. It's the only possibility as there is no outlet for it here in my bathroom. The extension cord does get hot though so I would just be ware of the situation and watch closely for any heat-related damage. I haven't had any damage, however. Please use a heavy-duty extension cord. **Q: Is it that there is no 5kw for the 110v?** A: Yes, the good model runs on a 220 circuit. I just tapped into my line that runs the dryer.
