Obsolute
My third update to this review now that I've actually (sort of) finished the book - see notes below. It's effectively obsolete in 2022/23. After almost every lesson/chapter, you'll be on Stack Overflow trying to figure out why things didn't work as printed. Also, elements that were free in 2019 no longer are (Mailgun and Heroku). That's certainly not the authors' fault and the "hobby" versions of these platforms aren't terribly expensive, but they definitely are not free so keep that in mind. The structure of the book is fine and the it is generally well written, but it needs an update. You'll be doing a lot of trouble shooting to get things working as many simply do not work as printed.I'm not sure if I'm better off after having completed it. Probably, but it's definitely been emotional.

Great Book
I have only gotten through the first chapter and I am quite happy with it. I have read a lot regarding APIs but having a book that walked me through the creation of one helped solidify the knowledge. Context: I am a Network Engineer trying to break into network automation.

Great book if you know how to debug the many problems that arise.
I think is well written and clear to follow. I honestly want to like this book. But as I follow the steps and I run into various problems, I had to keep stopping to debug why it wasn't working and many times it was because something needed to be updated or something just doesn't work that way anymore.I don't want to say this book is outdated, but for someone who is trying to learn how to do this and was hoping this book would help, it feels outdated. If there was a way to at least speak to them about the problems I am running into or if there was a group I can submit my problems to, maybe I would be ok. I still have a StackOverflow issue that no one has been able to help with. That's annoying. So now, I'll have to go look for a more reliable book or resource to learn.

good book but bad print!
I was very excited to receive this book, but when I started reading, I found that most illustrations in the book are blurry! a little bit disappointed!
