Yes it really does work and traps the very fine metal particles that pass through the filter media. I highly suggest using these + a magnetic tipped oil drain plug on any engine with a timing chain, oil operated vvt cam gears, solenoids in the oil system, or push rods. Over the last year I have cut open several filters at 4k mileage oil changes and found very fine metal dust captured, the particle size so fine/small you can not feel it.
