Works like a miracle
I usually don't take the time to review stuff on Amazon, but I have to in this case. Japanese beetles were destroying a $300 planter of flowers, specifically canna leaves, and I tried home remedies which seemed to keep them off the leaves, but I pulled out the credit card and got this professional solution, and it works! It's a bit tricky...you have to be 30 feet from what you are trying to protect, and down wind from there too (that is, in the direction the wind blows from, well it blows different directions different days, but okay, westerly in my case). I got a tip from Youtube that in addition to setting up the bag a bug, to put a bucket of water UNDER the bag as beetles aren't great fliers and will bump into the bag and fall into the water. So did that too. AFTER 15 hours from setting it up last night there are I would say 100 beetles IN THE BAG and another 50 in the water. While I was checking it four or five arrived and met their demise. They say to change the bag so the "dead beetle" smell doesn't override the phermone lure smell for them, and turn off the new beetles from coming over, so tomorrow I will change the bag, but it's great, and gross, to see a bag weighted down with DEAD japanese beetles. I also sprang for the special stand, which is only so so....Maybe it's at the optimal height, but it's filmsy, and bowing over, and bobs in the wind, so don't love that but it works and that is what matters.

What's eating you?
These things are amazing, easy to use, VERY effective at trapping and keeping the Japanese Beetles. They are a non toxic(to everything else in the garden) inexpensive way to capture and cleanly dispose of the beetles chewing up your flowers, especially ROSES. The trap assembles in about 2 minutes, including the addition of the flower scented bait. Cleanly dispose of the trap bag once a week, or when you have a lot of beetles in it.

The only "organic" method that really works !!!
I have a small orchard that I planted a few years ago. We also have roses and our usual veggie garden, etc. While not 100% "organic," I do try to keep to natural principles as much as I can. The past 2 years the Japanese Beetles have come in swarms so bad that they literally killed 2 of my trees and almost completely denuded several others (they especially like my sweet cherry trees !!!) I do use natural Pyretherins as an insecticide, but being a contact poison the Japanese beetles tend to do too much damage by the time they kick the bucket. And with literal swarm numbers, it's just too much for my young trees. I know traps CAN work, but from my experience with other brands, I didn't get my hopes up. These traps are GREAT! I put them out ahead of time as sentinels and as soon as the swarms came, the traps reduced the numbers hitting the plants and trees to the point of saving everything! Science (insect sex pheromones) + horny little beetles = bags full of DEAD beetles !!! Additionally, while really not that costly in comparison, the plastic dividers are reusable while the bags and attractants are available as refills! In all ways, truly worth the money!

A game changer
Wow! Why did I wait so long to try these?! I had tried Neem Oil with mixed successes and knew these bags existed. I remember seeing them on lawns as a kid! I think I always assumed using an attractant instead of a repellent for pests was not a solid idea. However, this product changed my mind! I watched the beetles fly off of my fruit trees and over to the trap. They were crawling on it before I got it hung up! Super simple to use. Easy to swap out bags if needed and theyโre incredibly effective. I likely have 3 or 4 dozen in both traps on the first day! Iโve even checked the trees since using this item and they arenโt bothering them much at all. They had almost deforested both almost overnight but fingers crossed for no more damage. As long as the bait stays this strong? Theyโll last all season.

Works great!
I am honestly shocked at how well this worked. It work fast as soon as we put it up and it caught hundreds (maye thousands) of beetles last season with one on either end of our yard. The pods and plastic parts on the top had no durability issues, but the metal stand sold separately is junk. The design is simple and clever but I highly recommend handing it from a slick surface with as little twist-tie/rope as possible. The beetles will absolutely find any clingy surface they can and will hold onto that instead of going for the smell pods. The trap works best when the beetles simply fly into the slick yellow panels with nothing to grip on, and fall into the trap once they try to land. Had a very strong smell of cloves (quite nice actually) and once the trap was full it was easy to clean up and pop-off the bag and replace. I've heard concerns about this drawing more beetles to your yard and subsequently to your plants. Our plants were already so covered it surely didn't matter, and I think it's far better to take out a significant part of their population in the area, which this definitely did. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a Japanese beetle infestation.

Not a sure-fire preventive for Japanese beetles.
The 'Bag-a-Bug' does work. I've discovered a number of Japanese beetles in the bottom of the bag. That said, assembling it isn't obvious, and the instructions on the package were somewhat confusing. The bag, once assembled, needs to be hung somehow - either from a flower pole or something similar. I didn't find any guidance on how high off the ground to suspend the bag. I also found that Japanese beetles still landed on nearby roses, so it doesn't capture all of them. The old 'hunt and squish' method I've been using, is a good step to follow alongside hanging the bag.

Impressive!
Impressive. I was reluctant for years because I heard this would attract the Japanese beetles to your yard. Been using Neem oil on my fruit trees, but mostly unsuccessfully. Set a bag up probably 20' from my 6 fruit trees, upwind (this is not the manufacturers recommendation). I filled the bag in the first 8 hours. Since it has only been a day and the bag wasn't that old, I got a 5 gal bucket of soapy water and dumped them in. See photo. Reused the bag. I set up two in my yard and must have killed hundreds of these things in one day. Second day I snapped photos and video of them flying around and falling into the bag. It's working great! I do believe this will give my fruit a chance!!

Place a bucket of water under the trap to catch any falling beetles
I recently purchased the Spectracide Bag-A-Bug Japanese Beetle Trap, hoping to save my garden from the annoying Japanese beetles that were wreaking havoc on my plants. The situation was getting out of hand, and I needed a solution that didn't involve spraying harmful chemicals on my precious veggies. After setting up the trap, I was amazed at how quickly it started attracting the beetles. Within hours, they were swarming around the trap, and it didn't take long for them to start filling up the bag. I must admit, I was a bit grossed out by the sight of the bag filled with dead beetles, but it's a small price to pay for a beetle-free garden. The trap covers a significant area, and it seems to be lasting the entire beetle season, providing continuous protection. The lure system used in this trap is effective, drawing in two to five times more beetles than other lures alone. One tip I found online was to place a bucket of water under the trap to catch any beetles that may fall from the bag. It worked like a charm, and I was able to prevent even more beetles from causing damage. The trap does emit a strong scent, but it's not unpleasant, and it fades after a few days. Overall, this product has been a lifesaver for my garden, and I highly recommend it if you're dealing with a Japanese beetle infestation. Just be prepared for the somewhat disturbing sight of the bag filled with trapped beetles!
