Great philosopher.
Great, down to earth philosopher. Introduction explains the problems of philosophy better than most introductory universiy philosophy courses. I honestly think they should start with Bertrand Russel, then go back to Socrates and Aristotle. The former will make you appreciate the latter, then let Sartre and Nietzsche break you brain bones, lol. I've loved Russel since I read "Why I am not a Christian," and feel that finally someone wrote in an intelligent and rational defense why pure atheism is not only practical, but sensible as well. Nietzsche was brilliant in his Antichrist as a critique and condemnation, but Russel gives a better and in my opinion, concise and cogent philosophical defense of a pure atheism. Well thought. All of these books are great for any philosophical inquirer. I also recommend his "Conquest of Happiness." Russel was a practical genius who wrote brilliant, accessible books. Highly recommend.
