The goto book of 21st century...
If there is a book for dog parents to really want to do what is best by their dog, this is it. It is backed up with real research data. It is understandable and is massively knowledgeable. So, even if you have a vet that is old school trained and does not understand what your asking, this is the knowledge for them too. Feeding your dog healthy for longevity is all in here, including breeding and health issues. Hopefully dogs will be living longer in the near future, I'm a passionate dog owner who wants best for our beloved companions and I've learned a lot from reading this. Having a dog with food intolerance and weak immune, I already knew certain information but this book has been thoroughly put together and has helped us.

Really Love your Dog
I think this is a terrific book for anyone wanting to feed their dog the best way they can. It is well written insofar as understandability, scientific backup information, etc. There is no indication the author is pushing one kind of diet over another, however, all the information is set out so you can make your own choice(s) and go from there. Anyone who buys this book is serious about feeding their dog to benefit their dog as well as withing their budget. It gives ways of enhancing some foods so they are better than the original for those on very limited budgets too. Good education tool!

Pseudoscience
The book title in no way delivers what it promises. It contains no scientific approach to the subject. The author, W. Jean Dodds, has her own views and beliefs on nutrition, food allergies and hypothyroidism, for example, which do not reflect the current scientific consensus. She mainly quotes her own work, which cannot be found in any other reputable journal. Again and again she recommends the NutriScan test that she developed and offers. In addition, the book is filled with fear-mongering statements about commercial dog food, vaccinations, GMO, gluten etc.. If you follow the recommendations for choosing a dog food, there is no guarantee that your dog will be adequately nourished. Only the list of ingredients plays a role in the selection and not the nutrients. There may also be some correct statements in between. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I can only recommend this book for people who do not want to leave their holistic bubble. It is not for people with a scientific understanding of dog nutrition.

This is the book to change your dog's health!
I rarely write reviews, so this shows how impressed I am with this book! I have a biochemistry degree so loved the fact the book is based on good, solid science and research. However, it's also very easy to read. Although I deal with the health of people, and see how changing diet changes health on a daily basis, I was less confident about what was needed for a dog's diet. This book has exactly that information. If your dog has any health issues ... or has yet to develop them, I thoroughly recommend this to open your eyes to what you're feeding your dog now and to do better for the future. The majority of dog's health problems, as with people, comes from diet.
