Hero realms is a deck building game that is great for seasoned collectible card game players and newbies alike. In normal play all players start with the same deck of 10 cards and “buy” cards from a common draw pile (market row) which means strategy will change with each game based on the market and coins drawn. The game is very easy to learn (I often play with my 6year old nephew) but can be in depth for advanced players who will focus on faction synergy and try to collect cards of the same color when they become available.Right out the box you can play with 4 players with just the BASE game, which is great. There is no need to purchase additional packs in order to get rare cards, since all the cards come with this set and there are no booster packs to worry about. Each set has the exact same cards; not a collectible card game!There are two “boss” decks included, dragon and lich. Which give the players a BIG boss to fight cooperatively or to play as against a team of adventurers (or solo). The boss decks are very unique with different life counter mechanics and fully different starter decks And abilities!There are also all the expansions which add a few new cards you can just include in your base box for extra themed cards. Some of the expansions add hero classes (wizard, fighter, cleric, rogue and archer) with their own unique 10 card starting deck and special ability cards. Hero’s have different starting health to match their trope and play styles that vary and change up the game. The hero’s are great for advanced players who want a more themed strategy in one on one duels and are used in the adventure mode.Both adventure boxes are included. So you get the story mode and the expansion. This lets you play cooperatively as heroes through narrated adventures against all style of enemies in a progressing storyline. Your hero will level up and gain access to new cards and abilities as you progress in the story.This bundle has ALL of the additions up to this point (6/2021) at a great price, plus it comes with a big ol’ box to store everything in. I put my Star Realms (Same company) and a few other card games in it since there is so much room! If you don’t need the box, there is often a bundle which excludes the big box which is cheaper, but do your research on the packs included because there are a few around the $70 range which are selective on the boosters included.If you are just dipping your toes, get the base box for $20 and see how you like it. If you already like Star Realms, go for this big set. I recommend it for sure!

The game itself is fun, and is a great fix for recovering MTG/TCG addicts. You can read plenty more in depth about it on BGG so I wanted to comment more on the product itself.Firstly, the construction and design of the storage box is excellent. There are plenty of compartments, foam dividers, and quality plastic separators taller than the cards themselves for marking every category of card down to the packs, and even down to encounters within the campaigns.Secondly; a friend and I sleeved every card before playing. While doing so, we had several questions which were answered almost immediately by game design or how the cards were laid out. Little things like “why does it say X on this card” when sorting into the big box would be cleared up almost immediately. It’s hard to put into words what I mean, just that a lot of things that seemed odd at first were revealed to be excellent design or organizational philosophy moments later.Finally, and kind of a result of the first point; it’s an excellent value. For under $130 you get almost 600 cards printed on nice stock, plus the quality storage box and other components listed above. I would easily think the value of something like this should approach $200 (but I won’t complain that it’s much less).As a note for obsessive sleevers such as myself… 582 appears to be the magic number. Some of the cards are double sided such as health trackers or abilities, but I don’t think they get shuffled in? I haven’t played enough to be sure. I used clear dragonshield sleeves to be safe. They fit like a glove and allow you to still enjoy the art on the backs of the cards.
