But no film or anything. Please remember when sticking the tape to a not totally flat surface it need to bond longer, please press it for several minutes either by hand or use something heavy to apply pressure. **Q: Will this magnet adhere to itself if I place a piece on two different objects that I want to connect?** A: Doesn't really hold **Q: What is the Gauss Strength of the magnet?** A: The tape has a Gauss Strength from around 600 Gs. After about 15 years the tape started to demagnetize and pieces came loose and fell. We couldn't find the 6" wide magnetic tape the installers used anywhere, so we gave this a try. The decorative strips have three ridges running their length that's the same width as the 3M magnetic tape. I think it's not a coincidence. This tape's magnets although less surface area than the original 6" wide tape is stronger. It's holding the pieces in place very well. If others have a similar use for this product, know that the 3M tape is thicker than the 6" wide tape the garage door installers use. If you replace only one section, the adjoining decorative strips will be slightly out more than the others.
