Would this be good to wear under my normal swim cap and keep it from sliding off in the water?

Yes it does help I have done both but I use it under my cap and over it. My purpose is mostly to keep the water from leaking through the cap to keep my hair dry.

Will this keep my inner ears completely dry?! Nothing worse than swimmers ear, right?

No.This significantly reduces the water but does not completely keep water out. I use a swimming cap over this and I still get a small amount of water seeping under both the cap and ear guard. I have used several types of swimming caps and still get seepage.I do love the band as it is very comfortable, would not buy any other brand.

Is this small enough for school age children

It would fit my granddaughters age 5 and 7.

Can I use this for my 6 year old daughter

In my opinion, it would be too large for a six year old.
