I have become addicted to the Harissa spice mix from Collected Foods! It is true! I find that I am putting it on everything! It is even amazing on freshly air-popped, popcorn along with nutritional yeast & a bit of black salt (finding that I can’t wait to eat up the popcorn to glom up the shed spice/yeast mixture leftover in the bowl!)I love the taste of the small batch recipe, and YES you can savor the taste because you don’t have your taste buds blasted with a load of hot chili pepper! I mean what is the point of heat so very hot that it is tongue numbing? —- you certainly can’t appreciate or even differentiate among different spices, especially with some flavors quite subtle!I say bravo, job well done Collected Foods!And yes, I did stray to another less expensive Harrisa dry mix, and yes, the other one did not even remotely compare….it was so freaking hot that there was no telling what was in that concoction!Lesson learned, I hopped right back onto Amazon and ordered the WAY superior Harrisa from Collected Foods, making sure it is included in my monthly subscribe and save order!*Please know that I paid full price for these items and so I can truly say that this is my UNBIASED opinion!*

The first thing I did when I received the Collected Foods Harissa was to smell it. As expected, it had a very distinctive Middle eastern aroma. But what a pleasant surprise when I tasted it, straight from the packet to my mouth! It was quite different than what I expected. Fresher and more complex. Then when I tried it on food I experienced a totally new dimension in flavors that I didn't get either when smelling or tasting it raw. This spice seems to transform itself depending on what you do with it. I use it on all kinds of food. It still adds the Arabic/Middle Easter hint to my food, but with a slight twist depending on how I use it. I love the subtle citrusy flavor and how it blends with its earthy components. This is a definite must-have in your kitchen arsenal!

Okay, to explain how good this spice is, let me offer this analogy. In my humble experience, there have been three great spice realms - Thai, Mexican, and Italian. They do not taste alike, but they are wonderfully and distinctly delicious in their own right. I did not think I would find another spice realm that was their equal. Happily...I was wrong!Harissa is the African equal of the great spice wonders of Asia, Europe, and the New World. It is wonderfully complex, has a little bite but is not overly hot, and left me wanting more before I even finished the meal. I used the rest of the spice the next day.My only caution would be this - do not let the spice get thinned out by other ingredients - you will want to revel in this flavor and enjoy it as intensely as you can. Maybe add more than the recipe allows, but in any case do not scrimp on your harissa!Enjoy, and welcome to the Fourth Great Spice Realm!

I love this spice blend. It’s not super hot but still packs a bite for me. I use this blend on a variety of meats and veggies. It arrived promptly and well packaged.

Love that this Harissa is in powder form! So much easier to use I think and has better shelf life in my pantry :)This gives such an authenticity to my apps and entrees- my favorite combination so far is with roasted cauliflower, hummus and goat cheese/ this harissa gives the right amount of spice and dimension for me.AND I love it’s small batches- I can tell for sure compared to other bigger brands.Great value and quality!
