As an American with no German heritage I have always loved rye and pumpernickel bread, but it's never tasted quite right, sweet like sugar rather than molasses. I saw a documentary on the history of pumpernickel and they mentioned westphalian pumpernickel, and this brand specifically. Pleased to see that this authentic, historic product is offered, and yes, this is what I've been looking for. I do like that it arrives pre sliced, it would be difficult to get a good slice without crumbling the loaf. It's perfectly moist though, just incredibly dense and packed with whole grain goodness. Perfect toasted with a bit of good butter, or as bread for an absolutely diabolical corned beef sandwich. The pumpernickle is quite intense, the rye is medium intensity, and the three grain is just plain perfect for everything. I'll never go back to American bread, and the best part this product lasts for months on the shelf with no artificial preservatives.

I grew up eating this type of bread, and used to use another brand, which I still do for variety. I bought this variety pack to try them, but ended up repeating my purchase just because I like to switch off with the slightly different ingredients and taste. I always feel so satisfied when eating this product, it's high fiber, and filling. I almost always toast it, which you have to change the toaster setting, being more substantial, seems to take a lot more heat to toast it. My favorites with it are cucumber or pickled cucumber sandwiches, which I rarely eat because I like them toasted with butter (English) and trying to stay away from dairy, but I've tried this bread just in a toaster over with Olive oil, and a little Veggit or Spike on top, or any seasoning; it's very good that way. I have even used it making it like you would typically make garlic bread, with either butter or olive oil, which was a big hit around here, even with spaghetti or whole grain pasta. My mother was born in Liverpool, and my father from Poland. It was my Polish grandmother who got me started on this, so we had it with mustard and liver sausage. (That may be gross to some of you, ha, ha) But, now, I mostly use it to make tuna fish sandwiches. I buy the kind in the packets in coconut oil and add Veganese. At first and it still does, sound weird to me, because you can taste the coconut flavor with the coconut oil slightly, but it's shockingly good! and you don't need much tuna on it. We also toast it and use "jam" as my grandmother called it, which means any type of fruit only or fruit compote and or butters. My husband slathers on the raw almond butter, cashew butter, macadamia nut butter (he's one of those skinny guys that works it off,) and so I was also surprized it pair well with peanut butter, etc. I can't think of anything on it that I did not like this bread with. Cons: it's kind of odd in shape, so it does not fit in most toasters, I kind of have to halfway turn it to the other side, or use the toaster oven. But this is a small thing. So in that case, you can cut it in half and make two smaller sandwiches, as you would probably want to when eating it as well, just to be able to handle it easier and make two square sandwiches. Also: it sometimes crumbles (only this brand) or breaks off. I guess this is because there's no flour it in I don't think. However the other brand I use doesn't do that, but I think the other brand has molasses or something like that to hold it together well, either way, still five stars for taste, and it's not a huge issue. It has authentic taste and works very well with all toppings. The high fiber content is excellent for digestive health.

This is good bread, but buy it in a supermarket where it has been cared for. Arrived through Amazon all busted up in a plastic bag. Can’t remove a slice without the whole thing falling apart. Useful as expensive bird food.

I have bought this bread many times and had no problem. This time, however, when I removed a slice of bread(tried 2 of the 3 packages), it crumbled and was not edible. An odd problem and I see it has been reported by others. Perhaps it was handled roughly in transit? Curious! I like the taste and texture but not sure I would buy again.

Groceries on Amazon are outrageously priced especially if you don't get them from Amazon Fresh and I can't use Amazon Fresh because it says not available in my zip code. Two loaves of bread regular white bread $15 come on I get it for a $1.25 at my local grocery. This was the only bread that I thought would be affordable and I wanted something to go with the 3 lb salami I had ordered. I had never tried this before it was three loads were $13 which didn't seem bad because specialist bread is about four or five dollars in the stores. When I receive this it was the best tasting bread I have ever eaten it is so good I ate three Loaves and a 3lb salami in 5 days. Highly recommend this bread. It is made in Germany will the American Market because it's all written in English but when you read the label it tells you that it is organically grown with no chemical pesticides or fertilizers and the same company that makes the bread grows the grain. When you eat this you could just taste and feel the goodness that you're putting into your body. This bread is not on the list has but it is very good for you you can tell because it just makes you feel good when you eat it. I can't recommend it highly in love nor can I say enough good about it so I'm going to quit now. God Bless Y'all Jimmy in NC....

Breads are always good but packaging gets progressively less adequate so that many slices are broke on each loaf. This order was packed so tightly on shrink wrap that every slice is nearly folded lengthwise
