Yamaha APXT2 3/4-Size Acoustic-Electric Guitar with Gig Bag - Old Violin Sunburst

Wife wants to play guitar again after a long hiatus. My full sized Takamine with fat strings is too big and heavy for her. Got her this 3/4 Yamaha and I fell in love with it. I may have to get another one for her because I've been hogging it. It has a great voice for a 3/4. The action is nice, the built in tuner is a real treat. Never had one before but it is unbelievably convenient. I don't plug it in often but I had to check out that sound too. The electronics sound decent. Can't crank it up too loud or it starts to feedback, but I'm actually sitting right on top of my small but punchy VOX amp so I can't really say how it would work for playing out. The reviews convinced me to buy this one. The best review only had one major complaint; the tuning pegs. I agree they could be better, but I don't think they are awful. I have to tweak the tuning just a little once or twice a day before I play, but it isn't like it goes out of tune when I'm playing, even when I'm beating on it hard. I think it is well worth the price and was surprised by the volume it produces. Much better than expected. If you don't find the tuning pegs worthy, I think the instrument is good enough to spend money on for an upgrade, but I don't plan to. It is solid, light weight, comfortable, nice sounding, well designed, feature rich and handy. I'm keeping it in the corner by the bed and I pick it up every chance I get. I haven't played guitar much the past few years so having a guitar at my fingertips all the time is helping me get my callouses back quickly. No matter what you play, if you lose your callouses, rebuilding them is always painful for a few weeks, but this instrument is pretty easy to play. I've gone through the process several times over the years with my Takamine. This is far less painful. Perhaps that means it will take longer, but at least I can still use my fingers to type long reviews in the meantime. No avoiding the pain regardless of what you play, but there is pain, and there is agony. This guitar hits a sweet spot somewhere in between. It's just right for young or old, big or small. (FWIW, I heard an interview with Clapton where he confessed he doesn't play much when he's not working and when he has to prepare for a tour, even he has to go through the callous building process). Well, I'm way off topic now. Again, great little guitar. Go for it.

This is an amazing 3/4 scale guitar! It felt great right out of the box! No setup required! It has a unique resonance in its tone, almost like a ukulele or mandolin! The electronics all work perfectly well too! I thought it was weird that it takes AA batteries, but it’s not a big deal. It stays in tune great, and has no visible flaws! Fits perfect in anyone’s hands too! Perfect for the person I bought it for!

This guitar is amazing! It plays well, comes with pretty good strings already on it, and it’s a great 3/4 guitar size. The fretboard is the size of a 3/4 electric, so if you have larger hands, it could be harder to play, but overall great product, especially for the price. I would 100% recommend this for beginners or just anyone needing a smaller guitar. (Second picture is size comparison to a full sized Yamaha acoustic guitar)

I have mixed feeling about this guitar. I'm a youth pastor that has played around at guitar for 20 years, hammering out some songs strumming chords. But I got serious about learning the instrument during covid. I purchased this guitar on the Yamaha name, and in order to teach my 10 & 13 old children how to play, and have it as my bang around guitar for some on the go youth activities. Pros + it has lovely craftsmanship as Yamaha is wont to have. + very durable - I've banged it up and it's still solid + it's easy for my 10 year old to wrap his hand around to learn + it sounds fine when plugged in + tuner and electronics are nice to have + super portable and easy to pack + fun to take to the beach + I'm no expert but I thought the action was at a height easy to play Neutral The size is really a 1/2 guitar, almost a 6 string ukulele - so it could be good for a child or those with small/skinny fingers. The neck is tight for me to make some chords on with my fat fingers. Cons - as others have noted, has a tinny Ukulele sound when unplugged, especially when compared with - doesn't have nearly the sound of a slightly bigger guitar or one with a solid top that you can buy in this price range It has a host of good features. However, for $200 I wish I would have gotten a small solid top guitar like the FS800 Yamaha, CC60S Fender, or Orangewood Oliver Jr. They all sound like real guitars for the same price (though without the electronics - that I didn't really need anyway). Also, the Ashthorpe guitars and the like have full-sized guitars with almost the same quality build of laminate top. I got a full size Ashthorpe for $140 that has all the pros of this (except the portability) with none of the negatives..

I love it. I found the sound a bit too thin at standard tuning but it really mellowed out and had some nice resonance tuned a half-step down. I have smaller hands, and mostly play rapid-strummy Mountain Goats-esque folk rock stuff on this. It's great for that. Spacing for more complex picked riffs at the top of the neck can feel a little cramped, but about average down closer to the body. It smelled overwhelming of glue for about the first two weeks, which I didn't love. No longer noticeable. Been playing it daily for about two months now and have taken it out to a couple of open mics, which it's perfect for; built-in tuner works well, pickup sounds great direct into the board and PA. I don't hear a _ton_ of difference when I adjust the tone knob, but there's some good headroom in the volume control and it hasn't kicked feedback at me yet. It's especially great for songwriting. Small and comfortable enough that I don't get tired of holding or handling it, and it doesn't take up much room next to you on the couch. It just fits into the scene better when surrounded by some notebooks, pens, an iPad, music stand, a pile of empties, etc. And in a way that I'm certain would horrify ergonomists and guitar teachers everywhere, it's fairly comfortable to play lying down. I haven't had any issues with the tuners. The strings feel cheap, but fine for the price. The neck on mine was straight but not perfectly smooth; one or two spots had obviously been filled at the factory, which annoyed me for the first day or two but I haven't noticed them since. The frets were in pretty good shape. The bag is cheap and thin, but I hadn't realized it even came with one, so that was a nice bonus as it helped me get it back home on a road trip without damage. I picked up the hardshell SKB case many others have recommended in the reviews and it's a decent fit, especially if you roll your strap up and stick it into the gap made by the cutaway. Bottom line: if this thing got stolen I would immediately purchase another, no hesitation.

This is not typically your main acoustic. This is a little 3/4 size to toss in the car (gently) or take to something casual. Something to figure songs out with.. Or your main parlour guitar. For what it is it is beautiful in its own way. A little joy to play! I have very large hands and I don't have trouble with the size. The strings are factory but sound good. I use 13-56 strings on my main guitar so this is a nice break. It's smaller size is comfortable but the sound is obviously smaller than a full size but much better than most acoustic travel guitars. It sounds nice. As a begginer guitar, it is perfect. The electronics are great. However, the gig bag is just to carry it, and will not protect it.. At all! The tuners are plastic but stay in tune. For the price it is fun and a good deal. Can you hook this up to play live? Sure, it will not be a deep rich sound but even unplugged it sounds nice. To sing over it? I would go for something full size with better projection.. Much quieter than a full size. Or simply plug it in! Intonation is good and string height is fine for a beginner. You aren't going to be bending/shredding with this! This is a very nice traveler. I suggest you try one at a music store and you will see what I mean about the sound. 3/4 size sound, but a good sounding travel guitar. I own a backpack guitar by Martin and this is so much better. For what it is, and used for, I love it.

Modified Mar 19, 2022: I'm still loving this guitar and I'm playing it every day. The small size is super-convenient and I'm pulling it out of the case every day to practice for an hour or two. I also wanted to add that the string height was great for me out of the box, and that the strings do not hurt my fingers like they have on other acoustics (until adjusted). I did want to mention though, that now 2 months out of the box I am noticing the string issue that a few people have mentioned. For me it is still staying in tune great (so far) but when I detune the strings (for different types of songs on Xbox) I notice that on the 2 highest sounding strings (1-e & 2-B) the tuning keys are very loose and therefore not precise enough to tune and hold that tune. It isn't a showstopper for me and as soon as I retune back to something like E standard everything is great again. I will probably take the advice of a few people on the reviews and replace with better tuning keys and restring/retune the guitar at a shop when I get a chance. Still an AWESOME purchase for me! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I bought this guitar as I am travelling in Central America. It is small, easy to handle, and sounds great. Sometimes the higher strings sound a bit uke-like but that is a bit expected in a body this small. I have not had any of the workmanship issues that others have spoken about. The tuner works well and the strings have not come out of tune in the couple of weeks that I've been playing it. It came packed well and there was no paint chipping that others have noticed. I plugged it directly into my Xbox and play it like an electric but look forward to playing well enough that I can take it to the beach to play around a bonfire.

THIS GUITAR HAS NO SOUND QUALITY AT ALL , HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS TRY IT AND THIS GUITAR NOBODY LIKES THE SOUND, YAMAHA MAKES GOOD GUITARS BUT THIS ONE IS A LEMON. REQUEST RETURN AND REFUND

I saw loads of YouTube reviews recommending the APXT2 and haven't been disappointed. Really nice guitar. Looks great, sounds great - obviously a little quieter than full sized when just acoustic (which is actually a big plus when kids are practising) but not an issue when attached to an amp. Yamaha quality makes it really nice to play (especially for smaller hands) and the smaller size makes it super portable. Well worth the price.

La clavija de la sexta no se ajusta. La madera no fue lijada antes de ser pintada y se ve los canales que produce la sierra al cortar la madera. No son buenas maderas, las cuerdas muy corrientes. No es justo el precio para la calidad de la guitarra. Por mucho menos se consigue más calidad.

Excelente guitarra, sonido espectacular y una inmejorable relación calidad/precio, tamaño perfecto para cargarla a dónde vayas, obviamente el sonido acustico es menos fuerte que una guitarra full size pero aún así es de mis favoritas.

well constructed, good tone,neck slightly too wide for my hands setup done well.great for teaching new starters. I wish there had been more specs (such as neck dimensions) which may have influenced my choice. Overall nice price and well made in Indonesia.
