This filter does it's one job very: It prevents the lint in the washing machine's water draining from clogging up the drain in the utility sink, where the washing machine discharge drains into. It also fits perfectly into the drain of my standard sized utility sink tub. Without this lint trapper (or other means of trapping lint), the drain would get clogged and would have to be snaked out periodically. I can do that, but I'd rather not. In terms of maintenance: lint accumulates in the lint trapper and every couple weeks you have to clean it out. That's fairly easy to do and takes 5 minutes at most. I replace them about every 6 months. I think some people can get more life out of one of them. But in my experience, one of the blades breaks off every 4-6 months, allowing a bit of lint to get through. So I keep extras on hand to replace them when needed. Yes, $13 is a lot to pay for a plastic item that probably costs $1 to produce. But for me, the value I get from this lint trapper exceeds $13 by far, so it's an easy purchase decision.

On my washing machine the outlet hose runs into the utility sink next to it. I had been putting a nylon stocking or other similar material on the end of that hose but didn't feel confident that it was catching all of the fine particles. So I put one of those fine metal mesh drain guards in the sink drain. That worked well, but because it is so fine it caught EVERYTHING and would back the drain up causing water issues. That's why I bought this item. It is plastic and I liked that it could allow water to flow if the water level should get too high. I had trouble first installing it and realized afterwards that I should have cut one of the tabs as described on the package. When I did it I forced the product and one of the tabs broke. It's not a big deal because it fits the same as if I had cut the tab off. The product catches stuff but I still leave a nylon stocking on the end of the hose to catch more. I'm quite sure that there is still a bit of fine particle matter going down the drain and it's not catching as much as the old metal mesh thing. But I also don't have to clean this one every single wash cycle and that is a big win. It's easy to clean. Stuff just builds up around the bottom and eventually makes bigger and bigger clumps of stuff that are easily cleaned by hand or you could use some kind of soft brush. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it except I'm sure there's still stuff going down the drain but I'm hoping it is so fine that it won't cause any problems down the line. Fingers crossed!

I installed a laundry sink into my basement to act as a strainer for a washer I was adding. I didn't want excess lint going down the drain and getting stuck due to low flow in that drain. My father had a similar set up on his washer, and had installed a PVC tube sticking up out of the sink drain to act as a filter. He drilled small holes all around the pipe. Initially, I decided to copy him. After the pipe clogging up 5-6 times in a week (lots of lint being laundered I guess), I looked for options and found this. This device works wonderfully. It's super simple to clean and can collect a lot of lint before clogging up. It works so well I bought a second one and sent it to my dad to replace his home made pipe filter drain thing. Great item!

I have a washer than drains into a slop sink, and I have pets, so I use metal lint drains on the end of my drainage hose. If I don't, I'll have a clogged drain in about 3 days. I still use the metal link socks, but this does a great job of catching lint and fur that sneaks through. Just keep an eye on the drainage tub, if you are washing something really furry, to make sure the trap doesn't need cleaning mid cycle. Mine got full and I was worried it might overflow. I think it has an overflow protector, but I want to watch to make sure it works first. But very happy with the purchase and removing the fur is a breeze! UPDATE: The overflow protector works perfectly! I still would check mid-wash if you're washing something really furry though, because the overflow doesn't stop lint or fur from going down the drain, and it's better to keep water moving through the bottom part instead of the overflow hole, for that reason.

I bought this lint trap for my laundry room sink over three years ago and it has worked so well. I love it. It keeps the lint and debris that gets through the mesh strainer and prevents it from going down the drain. But it still allows water to go down the drain. I may have to clean it once every other month, so it’s not something that takes a lot of work to maintain. After three years though, it’s getting a little bit harder to clean in between all of the grooves. So I ordered another one. Because why mess with perfection?

Don't even think twice! Buy this lint trapper now. I'm about to buy my second one. Our laundry tub has not overflowed since installing this ingenious trap a year ago. It still works great, but we haven't been as good about cleaning it as one could be so it's gotten kinda yucky. It's super easy to install - just stick it in your drain. It fits our drain perfectly and apparently is adjustable to other sized drains. The only downside is that it's not super easy to clean well. But the good news is that you don't need to clean it super well for it to work super well and since it's inexpensive, you can just buy another one once it gets too yucky for your comfort. I highly recommend.
