How high dies the tempeture go?

I can't say the exact temperature, but I have a 1600 square foot home and it heats up the majority of my main floor.

Can you run it without the clear plastick back?

Yes, the plastic back is optional. It is not clear but rather opaque. Personally, I like it better with the screen.

Is plastic screen/panel flat or slightly curved when installed?

Its flat, has hand screws to put it on, I went to Home Depot and got a hang ceiling plastic light panel I cut it a little wider than where I wanted in the back of the fireplace and just pushed it back and it curves more and more as it goes back further and covers the entire back part of the unit and looks great, You can cut ifs length and high great unit that looks real and puts out a decent amount of heat.
