Just right replacement shorts for older Canari model
I have a lot of different cycling shorts. Some are cheap, some are nicer, and some are in between. My previous favorite pair were the Canari Velo Gel Cycling Shorts and they were the absolute best.So I was a bit disappointed over the years that Canari ended the Velo series but, after reading advice on various forums, I was told that the Canari Blade series is nearly identical.I held my breath as I opened the package but I was pleasantly surprised to find that, while the color on the side is different (nicer, large visibility stripe) the construction is nearly the same, but the pad was the thing I was most concerned about. It is a different design than the Velos. So of course my first thing to do was set out on a fast 50 mile ride, lots of hills, lots of speed, some wind. All the sorts of things that might cause discomfort with just okay shorts. But the padding design and the shorts overall did a great job of making a fast 50 mile ride as comfortable as it is going to get.The padding is great - it looks almost like it is too wide but it seems to be perfect as it tapers on the edges. The gel is the right thickness - not too much so you are moving around, and not too little so that your saddle and the shorts don't mesh well enough. The tapering edges help the transition from no padding to the heavier gel part.Leg compression is good without being too tight. And overall seem to fit perfectly according to the size I got - medium. I'd say if you don't like tight stuff order larger, but these are the proper compression I believe. All sewing seems good and high quality and I expect these to last a long time and to hold up well like all Canari stuff.

On the road again….
These babies got the padding that makes the ride worth it. As a new rider, the gel pad hits the spot when it comes to all the right comfort. The grip seems for the thighs are perfect and keep them in place even on those hot days. The one down side is that they are a bit tighter than expected.

Satisfactory
Decent shorts for the price. Canari shorts I've purchased in the past have proven to be durable and long lasting.

Quality went downhill and they don't care.
Nice shorts. The only drawback is that they are 1 inch shorter in the leg than the shorts I have been wearing so I have a funny looking strip on my legs where the sun is hitting skin that hasn't seen it for a while. These are sold as having a tall waistband but they seem smaller all the way around than the ones I have been wearing for a couple of years. I do really like the gel padding, it is better than the foam padding. I have now bought 2 pairs and intend to buy more.UPDATE: I bought more of these shorts from Canari, truly disappointed. Though I bought the same size, they were quite a bit larger - unwearable - and Canari has so far refused to do anything to make it right. Since I washed them, you know like you are supposed to before wearing new clothes, Canari won't accept them for return or exchange even though they are mis-made. When a manufacturer won't stand behind their product, I won't buy from them any more. Canari eventually took the shorts back and refunded my money but still can't make a decently sized pair of shorts.4/30/2022 UPDATE: still haven't fixed their sizing legs flop around

These are my favorite shorts and I have accumulated 5 pairs over the ...
I ride as a commuter, daily 30 miles. These are my favorite shorts and I have accumulated 5 pairs over the last year. What I have found is I can order the XXL size - 2 sizes larger than I would ordinarily wear - and because of their oversize, I can just throw them into the wash a couple-three times weekly, week in and week out, and then into the dryer with no special care. They slowly over time shrink a bit as you'd expect. But due to buying oversize, they remain perfectly comfortable. Also there is enough give in the spandex that they still fit comfortably despite that oversizing when new. Lastly, the gel pad is well-proportioned so it does not bunch up in bad places or be thin in others. After repeated washings the only thing that shows wear is the logo, which is some kind of appliqué that eventually has flaked off on my oldest pairs of these shorts. Not a factor for the usability of the shorts.

Beware - Sizes run small. Otherwise, great.
Beware! These run small. I am 150 pounds with a 32 inch waist. I've worn this same Canari short in a large size for a while and wanted to get more as I really like the Gel padding. I originally purchased the large but they were way too small! They were returned for the XL! and they fit perfectly except for a little loose around the leg openings, I can live with that.I've worn Pearl's in the past but I much prefer the gel over the rubber-like padding in the Pearl's. Also the edge of the padding in the Pearl's is not sewn down causing some very uncomfortable riding. And really how can you beat the Amazon price for the Canari Xl's?

6'1" 280lbs; 2XL fits very nicely; they don't ride up
As a new rider, I was suffering from a sore bum, and found that my legs were outlasting my rear. I bought a pair of these at the recommendation of a friend, and I love them. Now my rear outlasts my legs, easily.I'm 6'1", 280 lbs. I bought a 2XL, and they fit snugly but comfortably. The padding is in the right places, and I really like the grippy stuff at the hem, which keeps them from riding up. That's huge for me, as the shape of my legs pretty much means everything rides up sooner or later.
