It's all about the cars baby!!!!!
First, let me say that I decided not to watch this movie when it came out summer 2003. I was so turned off from the first one (Fast & the Furious) that I though the sequel will be a waste of time & money (most sequels tend to flop nowadays). The cars in the first movie were ok, but there was no plot...basically none...nada!! Not to mention Ja Rule only showed up in the movie to get dissed? lolol...serves him right. Fast & Furious was lame overall, but Vin Diesel stole the show (hands down). So, I'm disappointed that he wasn't in this sequel though. So I rented & watched the DVD 1yr later expecting to see another dumb sequel.I was wrong...This movie finally has a decent plot that gelled all parts of the movie together into one exciting rollercoaster ride. The cars, were much better, waaaaay faster, not to mention the girls and the setting (how can u beat Miami?). The first race totally blew me away. Incredible Car Stunts!! Not to mention the cars. Skyline? Spider? Evo VII? The 2 Hemi monsters? American Muscle?...What more cars could u ask for Man? They even rolled out the whole pack of cars near the end. The police aren't that stupid. It's just flat-out fast paced action from the word "GO!" The driving maneuvres during all chases were well done.Paul Walker's a pretty cool actor...I respect the man. Tyrese was just too funny. Eva Mendes is so pretty, that I've stopped dreaming of J-Lo. Ludacris & Devon Aoki look so cute together. Not to mention the villian (Cole Hauser), he was stoned cold. All the actors were tight. How can I forget the soundtrack? All the tracks are flat-out club bangers that fit the scenes like a glove. That track during the buildup to the 1st race (when the skyline was driving in) was my favorite. You'll be feeling the beats for real.To me this is one of the hypest movies I've seen that really lived up to it's name...definitely one of the best urban movies I've ever seen in a while now. You won't get tired of this movie, and you'll want to watch it over and over again. This movie is a keeper for all car-lovers.Should they do "Fast & Furious 3" with Vin Diesel back in with Paul Walker, Tyrese in it, true justice will be surely be served. This movie rocks! Why? It's all about the cars baby!

I had to write a wrong!
So I was telling one of my daughters about seeing the recently released Fast Nine and she mentioned that she had never seen any of the entries in the Fast and Furious oeuvre. "Where did I fail as a parent, as a father?" I asked myself, and then set about rectifying the problem. This was one of those efforts.Unfortunately, I discovered two things during the viewing of this and other movies:1) The Theory of General Fast and Furiousity holds that, at any given time, any Fast and Furious movie is being shown somewhere on the television, either on cable or a streaming service. I found this to be false. My fellow scientists and I will recalibrate our data and investigate further.2) You can lead a twenty-something daughter to Toretto, but you can't make her watch. Despite the high-octane action, insane stunts and amazing amounts of cheese, my daughter simply wasn't entertained. Maybe if I introduce the drinking game element. My fellow scientists and I will recalibrate our data and investigate further.

Meh, kinda cheesy
It's pretty 2000's cheesy. Way too much insane camera work on the racing, and poorly done CG. Otherwise, it's an okay story.

Vroom Vroom!
Former cop Brian O'Connor is now a wanted man living in Miami after the events of the first film. To avoid jail time he agrees to go undercover with a childhood friend to investigate a dodgy businessman who is using street racing as a cover for a drug operation. A forgettable brainless plot but good fun to watch with some good action. The now sadly late Paul Walker returns for this first sequel in the now neverending franchise and is the only original cast member in this film though it introduces Tyrese into the mix as O'Connor's former childhood friend and now reluctant partner. Acting is wooden and sorry to speak ill of the dead but Paul Walker whose death was a shock at such a young age was hardly the world's greatest actor but he was good at what he does with action scenes especially behind the wheel and there is a buddy buddy double act with Tyrese. Nothing you haven't seen before in a dozen similar films then but good, brainless, throwaway disposable fun. There is a short 5 minute film before the main film showing how O'Connor got to Miami which isn't bad but doesn't really add anything.

Entertaining stuff
This is a film about cars and street racing at the end of the day, and in that sense it doesn't disappoint. Paul Walker is a cop working undercover in the street racing scene trying to infiltrate Vin Diesels gang of boy racers. As Walker gets close to top street racer Dom (Domestos) (Vin Diesel) he starts to make friends within the street racing community and falls in love with Dom's younger minx sister Mia. But Dom and his friends are amongst the prime suspects and may be the hijackers he is looking for. Ultimately, Walker will have to decide whether his loyalties lie with the FBI, or with his street racing friends. This is hardly deep-thinking cinema, but is in no way lessened because of that. Full of high-octane street racing scenes and plenty of automotive eye-candy and a decent soundtrack, the excitement rarely lets up. The characters are not deep, but are appealing nonetheless and some development is apparent. Paul Walker looks almost too clean-cut for the role of O'Connor, but pulls it off with some flair. Vin Diesel is the actor of note in this film however, giving DOM plenty of appeal and authenticity. He is such an anti-star. He doesn't quite look right. He is bald, sort of ugly and has a boxer's nose. But there is a certain carmel to his voice, a certain burnt sweetness. So that even when he has to say things like, "You were granny-shifting, not double clutching like you were supposed to" and "I live my life a quarter-mile at a time" you can't help but smile and nod. Diesel absolutely steals the show. This is a film about cars and street racing at the end of the day, and in that sense it doesn't disappoint.Brian: Mia, I'm a cop.Mia: What are you talking about, Brian?Brian: Ever since I met you, I've been undercover. I'm a cop.Mia: Oh, you basta&d. You basta&d!Quality stuff in a dumb brain-damaged way.
