NIV, The Story, Hardcover, Comfort Print: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People

My wife was talking to some ladies who commented, “Have you ever read through the whole Bible? Every one who I know has done that said it was life changing. Do you think it would be for me?” That was the beginning of a revolution and revival in our community. Approximately 100 individuals went through this book and the videos over the next four years, some several times. They now see the big picture of the Bible and “His Story”. People who had attended church for years and always felt inadequate in their Biblical knowledge, now had confidence and even felt comfortable enough to teach others. Several accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Yes, reading through the Bible does change lives. The format sticks to using scripture in whichever version you choose. We found, that since most of the folks participating were not scripturally advanced, reading in NIV or New KJV was better than the archaic language of the KJV. It uses blocks of scripture with a paragraph or two of connecting explanation every couple of pages. It picks up the highlights of the story of God’s plan and hand on the world. I does not include every chapter of the Bible. Janet found that some folks would read the whole chapter on their own, but she also took time to read it aloud to the whole group after they had watched the short video. She also taught them as they read through and answered their questions. As they completed the study, most wanted to turn right around and do it again with the new under they had. And a couple groups even tackled actually reading the Bible verse by verse all the way through. The videos are 10 minutes or so apiece, and work well to do at the beginning of the sessions. We highly recommend this for any Christian denomination as it is simply reading the Bible.

This book is absolutely incredible. The Story takes the entire Bible and presents it as one seamless, flowing narrative — making it so much easier to understand God’s plan from Genesis to Revelation. It’s written in a way that keeps you engaged like a true story, while still staying faithful to Scripture. I’ve read the Bible many times, but this version helped me see how every part connects — how God’s hand, grace, and love are woven through every chapter. It’s perfect for both new believers and lifelong Christians who want to deepen their understanding of the Bible as a whole. The layout is clean, the pacing is perfect, and the tone is inspiring. It really brings the people, promises, and purpose of God’s Word to life. A must-read for anyone who wants to see how their story fits into His story.

I started to give this a lower rating due to the edges of the pages being jagged. After seeing them in store however, it appears that that is just how they are produced. Other than that, it seems to be a well made book. I like the idea of making the Bible read similar to a novel. Reading this helps to give more understanding when reading the actual Bible.

This laid out the story of the Bible so it was easy to read and understand but left the message strong and clear

Book is not manufactured well. Pages along the side are uneven and bend, wrinkle, & tear. I returned the book and received another, but it was also poor quality. The paper also feels rough and cheap. I kept the second book b/c I really enjoy the content of the book & there isn’t an option to buy it from another manufacturer/publisher.

For me, reading the Bible has always been quite daunting. The tiny text, thin pages, narrow paragraphs, and not to mention the formality of it all! It feels like I should be sitting at my desk with neat hair and a good posture. That makes it quite difficult to get through the whole Bible in a reasonable amount of time. I found that reading The Story was a different experience altogether. The novel-feeling is great, I had no shame in relaxing on the couch under some blankets and reading the day away. It was like reading any other book, only the story line was at its greatest! Now I know some people are being picky, because a lot is skipped in The Story. Quite frankly, you can read this compressed version of the Bible in as little as a month (reading a chapter a day), and that's enough to convince me. And the way it was written, you know when something has been left out. I kept my 'real' Bible next to me while reading, and if I wanted to know more at any point, I could easily cross reference. I think I only did this about twice though, as I was very satisfied with the way The Story was written and explained. It was certainly a great experience to get through the entire story of the Bible in such a short time, and I would recommend it to anyone. I think that especially for new believers it can be a great help. Instead of taking a year to read the whole Bible, and possibly losing interest in the first month or two, I say, let them read The Story!
