After all the years of experts extolling the value of strategic planning, finally someone has written a simple treatise on how to execute the plan. A great plan is useless without execution. Michael Synk has reached back into his deep experience as a facilitator and business coach to lay out a clear case for executing the plan and using a tested format for keeping track of progress. Unlike a lot of business plans that get written, put on a shelf and never seen again, this is a book to be kept handy on the desk and referred to often.

This is a terrific little book. It is incredibly well written and does an commendable job of transforming the complex into a simple, very understandable message. I recently used it with a group of 30 leaders and their managers in a planning session. People not only got the message from reading the book, they really enjoyed it. This is a winner!

Running a "successful" small business in today's economic climate requires the implementation of proven principles and techniques that are practical and market specific. I found this book to extremely relevant and full of substantive guides that can used or applied immediately. I will teach all current and future employees the concept of Rock & Sand as these principles will be referred to often as business continues to grow. Very good investment of my time!

The principal appeal is the simplicity of the concept, while being profound and the directness of the approach. The knowledge won't just wash out quickly like a hair rinse.The concept has staying power.

This book has some real gems for helping you to understand how to work to define and then execute on a strategy piece (rocks) whist still be able to keep the day to day machine working (managing the sand).Found the 3 execution question and 5 strategy question extremely helpful

I love this book. I picked it up recently and read it in one evening. I couldn't put it down. It is very practical. Direct and to the point with no nonsense. I call this "the book that is usually buried in the book". What I mean is, Michael has found a way to nail the content without the several hundred pages of other nonsense. I have begun giving this to all my clients and am requiring that all my leadership teams read it before we take them through their annual planning cycles. I highly suggest this book. It is very easy to read and you will get a very good return on your time investment.
