Fabulous premium oil paint...and this color has lots of uses
Anyone who has been painting with oils for any length of time (or passion) is most likely familiar with the Williamsburg paint line. This isn't the Grumbachers, Reeves, or even Winsor & Newton oils from your craft stores. Even many small art supply stores don't carry it because of the higher prices for some of the pigments. It is considered up there with the other top paints such as Old Holland, Harding, Blockx, etc...much higher quality of product and a much higher amount of top-notch pigment loaded with minimal oil/fillers/binders. This doesn't mean that it's not wonderfully creamy to use, though. It just means that when you squeeze out a small nut of paint on your palette, that an equal amount of separated oil doesn't ooze out first and puddle around the color. While some people might be only familiar with using oil color straight from the tube and actually may prefer the thinner consistency of those oil paints, I much prefer a thicker, higher pigment-load product. I always figure that I can quickly and easily thin it to the consistency (and flat, smooth-brushing capability) of thinner oil colors by using various mediums or turps. But when you want to be able to see expressive brush strokes, it really helps to use one of the best.As far as this color goes, I originally bought it just because it was available on Amazon Prime for a good price (plus it is a pigment that is in a lower price range to start with). I've been VERY pleasantly surprised at how many times I've found a use for it though. It isn't one of the mixes of oil colors that you can achieve by mixing a bit of sienna or umber into titanium white. Instead they heat titanium dioxide until it reaches this color...sort of a creamy grayish-buff color (think of pale latte). And the uses? I sometimes use it instead of titanium white for mixing tints...it creates much softer hues when mixed with other colors. It is finding the occasional palette spot for mixing flesh tones for portraits. And sometimes it just comes in handy for its nice, soft neutral color. It started out as a color that I doubted I'd use much. Now I see myself needing to restock it in the not too distant future. Some paint manufacturers make a version of it that is merely titanium white mixed with a speck of raw umber. You can mix that yourself; but in my opinion, it doesn't look the same. Other high-end paint makers do as Williamsburg does by heat-altering titanium dioxide. I haven't tried their versions yet; but I do highly recommend the Unbleached Titanium that Williamsburg produces.

Great for adding a touch for gold and shine to any artwork
As a professional artist, I love this paint for adding a golden shine to my artwork. You’ll need a several coats for the gold to be truly opaque or to have a base cost and the gold over top of it (as seen in my attached artwork). Otherwise one coat acts as a glistening sheen in the sunlight. It’s expensive, but just a touch of gold in any artwork makes all the difference. I highly recommend!

Dissapointed
This line is a buttery easy to use oil but frankly the colors all look alike to me and I thought I had a strong eye for delicate differences in tone and the value of the oil. I'm not going to return them because in my effort to find happiness in the colors I used too much of the product and it would be shameful to return them used. I would not reorder this particular color set again but if the other color options suit I might try them. Its lovley oil paint but the colors are too damn similar.

It never dried…EV.VER!!! I had to scrape it off and return it.
I'm thinking this product didn't pass inspection by the manufacturer, Williamsburg paints, which is a highly reputable company. Somehow this bad one was scooped up by amazon, kept in their warehouse until some poor sucker…me…decided to buy it from Amazon instead of Williamsburg. In my defense, I did check with the manufacturer first, and Williamsburg was out of stock with no date that it would be available. Possibly they were discontinuing it because it never dries…not slow drying, but NE.VER!!! So, I returned it. Hopefully it won't be sold to some other sucker.

It's amazing what a few touches can make when playing with ...
I have been using Williamsburg paints for years and just started to use iridescent. It's amazing what a few touches can make when playing with light in a landscape. I highly recommend these paints.

Just ok...not the usual quality of williamsburg
As Williamsburg paints go are the least favorite I have ever had but typically most metallic or iridescent oil paints are not the best quality to begin with. The photo that is shown when you click on it on Amazon does not show the colors of paints that you are actually getting. The silver and I think it's a pewter color are actually almost the same shade. But by comparison to other brands of metallic or iridescent oil paints it's still better than any others I have found

Awesome Vendor!
Amazing paint and wonderful vendor! This vendor is a family owned art supplies store. They were incredibly professional and amazing customer service with a small snafu that I had. I would absolutely order from this vendor again! Thanks for everything!

Just what wanted
I used to paint halos. Better than cadmium yellow medium, which I use all the time. This paint really gave my painting the look I imagined wanting the halos to be. I think it’s a better alternative to gold foil that can tarnish per some brands or specific line items.

Absolutely fantastic, thick consistancy
Absolutely fantastic, thick consistancy; adds that beautiful iridescent sheen to anything; do not mix with whites; works wonders with reds; mixed results with blues/blue red hues

Lovely!
I love Williamsburg Handmade Oils. The Cerulean pigment from this particular brand is a little more grainy than what I imagined. If you do a lot of glazing, this might have a little too much grit/tooth for the ultra smooth tableaux but I think it is an essential nonetheless. The quality is superb so really, no complaints. I am also happy to discover Hyatt’s All Things Creative store through this Amazon purchase. We have stores in Canada, but in a pinch, or for a few very specific items unavailable elsewhere, this is a great place to look!
