From $200 shampoo to J.R. Liggett’s FOREVER!
Review + updates. Read till the end. So from buying the most expensive shampoos on the planet paying $200 for one shampoo bottle with pure Amber and diamond dust and gold and all their fancy packaging and unpronounceable ingredients, to admiring this piece of miracle traditional style shampoo bar I can’t express how much I’m in LOVE with J.R. Liggett’s shampoo bar and so thankful and appreciative to its owners to make this kind of high quality 100% natural shampoo available for us. It cleans the scalp like no other shampoo can, the lather is ahhhhhhh rich rich rich! and all natural ! It’s vegan so no animals had to be tourtured in the making of this shampoo. The aromaaaaa of the shampoo is unbelievably relaxing. You’ll finally see your natural hair at its healthiest after shampooing and no need for conditioner at all, it’s that good .. I’m hoocked FOREVER! Before buying I read some reviews saying no lather, guys what are you talking about!!!! There is so much lather you don’t know what to do with it! Use it properly! And I also read other reviews that says it finishes quickly, again I don’t know what they’re talking about!! I wash my hair every day, and during shower after I use it I keep it away from the shower/water so it doesn’t continuesly wet unnecessarily and I’m VERY generous when it comes to shampoo and soap so I use a lot of it in each wash .. it doesn’t finish fast as some reviews say and it’s written on the bar that it lasts for 24 usages. I’m so glad I decided to give it a try! And by the way there are sellers who can sell you 1 piece instead of 3 and it’s cheaper of course if you want to try one to decide for yourself PLUS the bar says you’ll get 100% refund if your not satisfied ! What are you waiting for? Get it now you won’t regret it ! **Update (1) : there are parts of my hair that are frizzier than the rest and no matter how much I oil or condition it’s still frizzy and hard to manage. This shampoo ❤️ The more I use the more it works on it like a treatment and I kept noticing how it gets better and better after each wash and now it looks so healthy, can’t be more satisfied and happy! Important❗️** Update (2) : so I’ve been using this for about a month I think and was very happy with it till I noticed that it’s giving me build up! I suddenly have scalp full of dandruff which never had in my life! .. so .. I read and searched for reviews and some said that argan oil causes build up! and the one I’m using is with argan oil. I ordered a set of 3 types which has: argan oil, peppermint, tea tree oil. So I’ll probably switch to tea tree and see. Today I washed my hair with one of my old strongest shampoos to get rid of the build up and it only cleaned about 90% of it. for some reason I didn’t notice till I saw white things on my just washed hair coming out of my scalp, ewww. So what I recommend you do is to get the original shampoo, they didn’t include it in this set here on this page, but they sell it here on amazons and it’s the one with the red line, they sell 1 piece of it and a set of 3 pieces I recommend you get: the original shampoo (red line) costs about $7 and money back if you’re not satisfied, because then you’ll be trying the main/essential ingredients only and see if you like it. I’ll write another update confirming if I’ll continue using J.R.Liggett's shampoo or not. *** Update (3) : This is to confirm that I’m continuing with J.R. Liggett’s shampoo 👏👏👏 As I mentioned earlier if you are buying it for the first time don’t buy the 3 types displayed here .. no no .. buy the original shampoo first (with the red line) it’s available here on amazon .. sold as 1 piece and 3 pieces .. then you can start trying the rest as you like with different additional oils .. this shampoo is amazing! just keep in mind that each shampoo gives different results for different people, so if you don’t like one you might fall in love with the other. My final review will be on each type of shampoo they have once I’m done trying them all .. If you find my review helpful please click helpful. Thank you!

Fantastic- I've switched from liquid shampoo but have 1 minor problem
I bought these to try for travel to reduce the amount of liquids I had to carry and I have become a true convert. Travel: I was a little concerned that the bar might melt during travel so I put one (still wrapped) in a plastic zip bag and tossed it in my carry-on suitcase. I needn't have worried, the bar did not melt at all and was perfectly fine. It took the abuse of travel and the heat and humidity of Hawaii like a champ and I had less liquids to try to cram into the TSA-approved size bag. Use: At first I wasn't quite sure how to use the bar, but I've found that it works great to wet my hair thoroughly and just rub the bar all the way around my head near the scalp, right over the hair just like a regular bar of soap (lol :)). After I rub on enough product, I work it over my scalp, through my hair and rinse like a regular shampoo. It's easy, rubs on really quick, 1 swipe per area without having to apply much pressure so doesn't damage or pull on hair. Storage: I've found that it's best to give the bar a quick rinse after use to remove suds and keep it in a soap case so that it stays dry and maintains its shape. Setting it on the soap shelf or using an open soap dish in the shower didn't work well because it got stuck to the shelf or dish and melted into a lump from being exposed. Results: My scalp is healthier since using this shampoo, a minor tendency toward dryness/itchiness and occasional flakes has improved significantly. The texture of my hair is improved, it feels thicker and has more body/bounce. (I have long, almost to my waist, slightly wavy hair) Cost of buying shampoo has reduced significantly for me. I was buying a moderately priced salon shampoo (liquid) previously. I wash my hair 2 times a week, and a single shampoo bar lasts at least 3 months, even with my super long hair. I still need to use conditioner on just the ends of my hair because it's so long but if I had shorter hair, I would not need conditioner at all. Works great on color-treated hair. Doesn't strip the color or dull it, hair is shiny. Seems to help retain color better than my liquid shampoo which tended to pull more color out on each wash even though it was "color-safe". The scent is very light and clean. To me a lighter scent is a benefit because some of the more "luxurious" brands with heavier scents tend to conflict with my perfume and I'd rather smell my perfume than my shampoo. My only complaint: This bar shampoo does very poorly with washing out residue from dry shampoo sprays. I use dry shampoo sprays to add body and freshen up my hair sometimes between washes but when I wash later with the bar shampoo, it makes the residue from the spray shampoo turn to a sticky paste that doesn't rinse out, even with multiple washes & rinses. I noticed it when I was brushing my hair after washing and this pasty substance was collecting on my hairbrush. This happens every time I use a dry shampoo, I've tried 3 different brands now. My liquid shampoo never had a problem washing out dry shampoos. To resolve this, I've started using a apple cider vinegar & water rinse to remove the residue and that has worked great. I just wish the bar shampoo was able to do the job on its own.

I Used 2 types of Soap Bars but These Are Nice Soap Bars
I’m 56 and my gray hair is semi-coarse, medium-fine hair; I have short hair. I have tried both of the 3-packs of the "Grownass Man" & the J·R·Liggett's shampoo bars and the J·R·Liggett's Herbal one. This review will be posted on both of the Grownass Man & the J·R·Liggett's review areas since none of them were duds. J·R·Liggett's has more oils that are great for conditioning in each soap bar. Grownass Man does not but it seems they thought-out well and tested their soaps well and came out with outstanding shampoo soaps. I was looking for a shampoo bar with conditioning power, cleaning power, and nicely scented. Granted that J·R·Liggett's has good oils with excellent conditioning power like Hemp Oil that is in the 90s and Grownass Man has Avocado Oil that is in the 70s. I have learned that the higher the conditioning power the more water you need to rinse out your hair to avoid a waxy build-up and get off all the soap in your hair. Grownass man has very nice scents in all their bars where the scents stay and linger in the bathroom (it’s a very nice, pleasant scent) and J·R·Liggett's has mild-to-no scents for those with allergies. J·R·Liggett's is $26.99 for one 3-pack of three different shampoo bars of Tea Tree & Hemp Oil, Jojoba & Peppermint, and Coconut & Argan. I have also tried a separate one of Green Herbal one and it had a nice smell and a very good shampoo bar. Grownass Man is $39.99 for six bars (2 sets of three different bars) of Chill Out, Last Call, and Mint Condition. They have an Orange Shampoo Bar that I have not tried, but by reading what it has, I was not interested in that one. J·R·Liggett's bars are 3.5 oz and look like a small cube (they are small in size). Grownass Man bars are 4 oz and they look and feel like a chunky traditional bar of soap. Both of them last long but, Grownass Man lasts longer. My wife tried the J·R·Liggett's bars because they have more than three oils per bar, but she didn’t like the labor it took to wash her long hair every day and some of her hair was not washed even like a liquid shampoo would. I agree with her that they are perfect for people with short hair and would have liked some bars with more feminine scents. ---------------- Updated: I forgot to mention the following: - I stopped using, after three days, the J·R·Liggett's Argon Oil bar because it had a good amount of wax build up and gave me a flaky scalp. - The Herbal one smelled and felt more natural. - The Grownass Man's "Last Call" shampoo bar has this nice and strong manly-scent that I enjoyed the most. The entire bathroom smelled nice. It's Jojoba oil is great but it's conditioning power is a 12. And it gave me a slight waxy build up. - I used a lot more water with the ones that gave me a waxy build up to try to minimize the build up. ------------------ Of all of these 7 Shampoo Bars that I used, I have found that for me only, one from each Company work for me. - Grownass Man has “Chill Out that is an excellent Shampoo soap bar. Chill out has Avocado Oil (70) and Tea Tree Oil. - J·R·Liggett's has an excellent one with Tea Tree and Hemp Oil (90) as well Of these two, I like the “Chill Out” bar from Grownass Man because it has a very nice scent after I shower and even if when you leave it out to dry, it has a very scent throughout the bathroom; impressive. And because it is a 4 oz bar (not 3.5 oz) and it’s cheaper. If you don’t want to try all of these and don’t want to spend a lot of money, like I did, get “Chill Out” from Grownass Man. I am very sure that you will be happy with it. ————————- Updated: 21 August 2023 After trying and using up all these 7 soaps, I decided to go back to Grownass Man Shampoo Soaps. In general, both have essential oils for your shampoo needs since everyone has different hair maintenance needs. Grownass Man beats JR Liggetts in price, quantity, and if you’rea guy, that manly smell of Grownass Man’s soaps beats JR Liggetts: by far. ——————————- *Note: that in order to see the results of each soap, you have to try them out for at least 7-10 days. For me, some gave me waxy-build-up hair and some left me with dry hair. I like the 3-packs with different types to see with one worked for me. Amazing!
There weren't very many reviews on this when I was searching so I thought I'd come back and write my piece to better help someone else who might be interested in trying it. I am a licensed hair stylist so I know a lot about hair. I have been trying to get away from conventional shampoo because I was not happy with how it was leaving my hair-- even the expensive stuff like Aveda, which happens to be a company I have worked for, was leaving my hair limp and greasy after just a day. I was also struggling with dandruff. Anyways, I started off just trying baking soda and apple cider vinegar, or "no poo" as it is called by all natural community. It took about 2 weeks for my hair to "transition" but eventually I was only washing with the baking soda twice a week without experiencing too much oiliness. Overall I wasn't happy with the bs because I was constantly having to reformulate my bs to water ratio and I didn't LOVE the way my hair felt. The dandruff was gone but it would either be too greasy or too frizzy/dry for my liking. I also read where the PH of bs isn't good for your hair over the long term and can really ruin your hair. So, I started making my own shampoos, but wasn't happy with those results either. I read about this shampoo bar after some google searching and decided to give it a try. I was leary because it is basically all essential oils and water, that my hair would be greasy, but that hasnt been the case! My hair is clean, shiny, and wonderful after each wash! I absolutely love this bar. It lathers like normal shampoo and the smell is very light. I do an ACV rinse after washing just because that is what works for my hair type (I have fine to normal hair-- not too oily but not dry either. I am prone to fly aways also). I apply argan oil to my hair before blow drying and the combination is amazing! I can't say enough good things about this shampoo bar. I am washing about 2-3 times per week right now with it, but only because I work out at the gym 6 times per week. If I weren't constantly getting my head soaked with sweat I could probably go much longer without washing. If you are looking for a natural cleansing option with few ingredients that won't strip your hair of its natural oils-- this is it!

Did not work for me: incredibly drying, led to hair loss and greasiness.
If you have very oily, coarse, or short hair this shampoo bar might work well for you. For my medium length, straight, fine hair it caused an alarming amount of damage. I used it every other day or so, for several weeks, to give it a fair shot. I've been using shampoo bars for over 5 years so there shouldn't be any kind of adjustment period here. I'm using it as a body soap now and have no complaints. Pros: Pleasant, not too heavy scent. Solid little bar shape- does not seem like it will crumble, melt away, or break like many other shampoo bars. Lathers very nicely. Cons: I immediately noticed that the product felt more difficult to fully rinse out, and my hair felt very sticky while wet- like the strands were clinging to each other. I did not dislike this feeling, but lots more hair than usual was falling out with each wash and on my comb and brush, so much so that I noticed thinning down near my scalp when looking up close in a mirror to do makeup. Yikes! My hair did feel very clean after drying, but probably too clean- stripped, actually. I usually wash every other day but with this product my hair felt great for about half a day but oily and flat by nighttime- the scalp's way of trying to replenish stripped hair, I guess. I might consider using this followed by a deep conditioner after a long camping trip going a week or more without hair washing, otherwise it's not the right formula for me. Info: The first ingredient is oil so this shampoo bar is a true soap; since purchasing I've done some reading up and learned that the high pH and stripping capabilities of soaps can be destructive to hair unless followed by an acidic rinse to neutralize the pH.

Suprisingly sudsy, cleans thoroughly
I stopped using commercially prepared shampoos about a year or so ago. Prior to that I was cutting down on shampoo frequency and amount. My sorta dry, mostly wavy, super long hair was always looking greasy at the scalp and unruly everywhere else even with shampooing every day. So I began to cut back to every other day to every couple of days (or many more- depending on what I was doing). Then I switched to not using anything but water (meh), to home made concoctions (a lot of trial and error, but good experience overall) and occasionally a store bought organic, low toxicant formula. Whether home made or store bought, I want something that will clean my hair, not coat my hair with anything, and to contain just a few ingredients, with all of them being safe, non toxic, and environmentally friendly. Curious about a few products, I went to the Environmental Working Group to check out the safety of the ingredients. While doing so, I randomly came across this product. It had a good rating, so I decided to check it out on Amazon. I'm glad I did, since between the information gleaned from EWG and the reviews provided here, I made a purchase of one bar of the Jojoba and Peppermint Shampoo. To use: wet hair thoroughly. Lightly stroke the bar of soap down the hair. It will suds up. It doesn't suds up much in the hand, which is how I initially tried to apply it. I then add a little more water to my head, and once again stroke the bar down my hair. The amount of suds was impressive. I had gotten used to low suds homemade/organic soap "shampoos", and it was rather nice to feel the building up of lather. Excess suds went to washing my face, etc. Finish up by thoroughly rinsing hair. Pros: -Very clean hair. Borderline clarifying. -Full looking hair after it dries -Inexpensive (this bar WILL last awhile) -Very few ingredients -Minimal (and quaint) packaging -Easy to handle in the shower -Smells good, yet very minimal. Hair simply smells clean. -High suds for a good lather -Travel friendly Cons: -Depending on your hair, might need some conditioning or pre-treatment with hot oil (coconut oil with essential oils would be nice) -Sodium Hydroxide is one of the ingredients. This is caustic soda or lye, which is a great cleaning agent but can be irritating to eyes. Just keep the suds out of them. (I used the excess suds to wash my face without issue) Tip to keep the bar lasting a long time: - Grab a baggie or buy a cute little water tight container. As with any shampoo bar, this bar will disintegrate, semi liquify if left out in the open in the shower. Plan to put it in a baggie or some water tight container after each use. I go a few days between shampoos, so I have forgotten to take care of my shampoo bar more often than not. I leave it sitting in a plastic dish, and the dish collects water/humidity from other showers. Then when I go to shampoo, the bar is sticking to the container on the bottom and a tad bit dried out on top. Similar to any bar of soap, really. Anyway, I plan to take better care of my shampoo bar so it lasts longer. I see Liggett's has a few formulations available, I'm going to consider purchasing another one to see if I can find one that is more moisturizing.

The clouds above me opened, and the angels rejoiced in Paradise.
The only reason I'm giving this product a 5-star rating, is because that is the unfortunate limit Amazon has set for me as my maximum rating. Would that it were possible to rate higher, I would. As it is, bear with me for just a few minutes as I wax rhapsodic. I'm a guy with medium-long, curly, coarse, dry hair that flakes like a blizzard if I wash it with shampoo, and greases up like oil flowing over the beard of Aaron if I condition it, including "conditioning" with natural oils. I have tried everything. I have tried minimal washing (produces greasy hair with dandruff [how is that even possible?]). I have tried aggressive "softening" lotions, which smelled like silicone caulking. Probably because they were. I have done "no-poo" for months, only to finally break down under the buildup of dirt and grease, because my hair is completely unresponsive to brushing, and turns into a frizzy poodle-do. Baking soda and vinegar? Tried it, wanted SO BADLY to love it, but with a combination of hard water and substantial sebum production, it just fell flat, much like my hair beneath it. Enter J.R. Liggett. I do not exaggerate when I say this product is an epiphany. Yes, an epiphany. Two days ago I stepped into the shower, depressed about med school, depressed because I missed my fiancee, depressed because my hair looked like crap, but I wasn't willing to cut it. I stepped out of that shower a new man. I admit I had a momentary panic attack when I first began to lather. After about four swipes of the bar across my hair, I began the usual fingernail-against-scalp routine, and this soap literally ERUPTED into suds. It produced enough lather for me to wash my face, my beard, and a good portion of my body. (Side note, the mild peppermint tingle produces a particularly enjoyable experience.) Inside my head and perhaps to the empty bathroom, I screamed, "NOOO!!!" Lather is bad, lather like that means my hair is DESTROYED for the next two weeks. Every microgram of oil is now gone, excoriated from my rough, coarse tresses.... I swallowed my sob and rinsed. And then something magical happened. As I rinsed my hair, it felt lighter, freer, the strands gliding easily through my fingers. There was none of that squeaky, waxy, plastic-y friction, so familiar to me after shampooing. It just felt... Clean. As an insurance option, I had prepared about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in about 12 oz water, and I used about half of this as a "conditioning" rinse. As I rinsed this final concoction from my hair, all my doubts, all my worries, all my depression were washed away with it. Because DAMN my hair felt fine! I dried that glorious mane of thick, chestnut curls and I won't deny that I may have shaken them from side to side, just to revel in the sheer pleasure of MOVEMENT in my hair. Today is now D+2. Some of the afterglow has subsided. Life outside my apartment, outside my Grecian curls, has intruded into my mind. But guess what? I haven't had to shampoo my hair yet. I rinsed it with water twice (when I showered yesterday and today), and used a slight dab of coconut oil (just because), and it STILL feels great! It's still light, it's still curly, it still has movement and body. It still hasn't frizzed up, it still hasn't greased up, and it still hasn't produced the Himalayan snow cap of flakes about my shoulders that has plagued me since high school. And when the inevitable happens, and I do need to use this shampoo again (probably tomorrow), I won't be dreading it. For the first time in my life, I will WELCOME it! Deus laudetur! So that's it, that is my review. Just buy it, people. Yeah, the bar is small. But guess what: You use a tiny bit once to twice a week; it'll last you months. Yeah, it's $7, which is like $2/oz. But did you not read what I wrote above?!?! It's magic, people! For the cost of a "Vente" specialty coffee drink (probably pumpkin, because "It's Fall!"), you can Change. Your. Life. Do it. Just do it. Adieu.

Great product! Highly recommended!
We've been using this shampoo bar for only about a month, and we love it! With every other shampoo I've tried, over years of searching, I couldn't find a product that would stop the itching, itching that would start sometimes as soon as a few hours after shampooing. My hair type is thin (from menopause and stress), very fine, and long-ish (about to my shoulder blades). The first time I used it, I thoroughly wet my hair, then simply rubbed my hair from the forehead to the back of my head, then stroked it down the remaining length of hair. I added a little bit more water, then shampooed as normal, and my hair was covered in rich, thick lather and suds!! I rinsed thoroughly, and my hair seemed "clumpy". Fearing the shampoo didn't rinse out well, I ran my hand over a portion of it checking for shampoo residue; then I heard a funny sound: as I ran my fingers down a lock of my hair, it squeaked! It was so clean, it actually squeaked! As per some of the other reviewers, I let my hair dry some before I tried to comb it out, and as it dried it softened. As always in the past I use a wide-toothed comb and start at the bottom of the length of hair, and comb it over the sink to catch all the hair that typically fell out. I was very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to comb...and at how little hair fell into the sink! After it dried, I styled it as usual, and my hair had a bounce that it hadn't had in years! Now I use the shampoo every 2-3 days, using a tiny bit of conditioner (about the size of my little fingernail) on the ends, then use 2-3 sprays of a light mist of hydrating coconut oil. The scalp itch has stopped! The amount of hair loss while combing over the sink is all but nil, my hair is fuller, feels thicker, and has a bounce and shine that reminds me of the hair of my youth! My boyfriend uses this shampoo also. His hair is long and tends to be oily even the day after shampooing; he had dandruff and itchy red bumps on his scalp. After using this shampoo bar, he has no trouble combing his hair out, and it dries much more quickly. His hair is fuller and feels thicker, and the oiliness is diminishing as he continues to use it. His dandruff is gone and the itchy red bumps, after a month's use, are clearing up and mostly gone. He loves this shampoo and won't use anything else. Indeed, keep it away from the water spray in the shower. We've both been using the same first bar for a little over a month now, and still have about 1/3 of a bar remaining. We also travel a great deal by motorcycle, and are looking forward to taking this shampoo bar on the road with us. For one reason, a simple bar saves very valuable space (as opposed to multiple containers for shampoo, conditioner, etc.) when packing a motorcycle for a 2 or 3 week road trip. Now we're looking for an appropriate soap bar travel container to take this product with us on our next road trip. Long story short....we both are extremely pleased with the results of this shampoo and very highly recommend it! Give it a try-what have you got to lose?!?!?!? M. Lauder Concord, Va Concord,

Top!

Ho i capelli lunghi, lisci e sottili e purtroppo questo shampoo me li lascia grassi e pesanti. Lo stesso per mia figlia. Forse è il mio tipo di capelli a essere inadatto, ma di sicuro non lo sceglierò in futuro.

Great for travelling, lathers well, adds volume.
I have long salt n pepper hair. I usually use a purple shampoo with a high quality conditioner, but got this bar when I needed to pack lightly for a trip. It lathers really well, and the peppermint scent is a little too light until you get down to the center layers of the bar. Then you can really detect it, and it’s nice and refreshing. No conditioner needed. My hair doesn’t feel “conditioner silky” after rinsing, but it still detangles easily with a comb. My hair is also very voluminous after use and stays clean and “fluffy” for days! Have now been using it as my regular shampoo at home because it’s so convenient, except for once every two weeks when I use the purple shampoo. Started using the bar in early Feb and there’s still plenty left now in May! Highly recommend.
