What improvement on 2nd generation and did they fix the safety lock?

Since I am unfamiliar with the 1st generation I don't know what the safety lock was like. I do know that I have had no problem whatsoever with the safety lock on the 2nd generation knife and carry it with complete confidence

I'm not sure. This appears to be a very sturdy well made knife. Its easy to operate and sharpen.

Suggestions for sharpening blade??

I use a Work Sharp tool sharpener and find that the graduate grit bands on the sharpener do a great job.

Does it have a pocket clip and on which end?

Yes, and on the butt end. If you are right handed it will come out of your pocket and you can unlock with your thumb and hit release to open with your index finger, and be ready to go, all in one relatively quick and fluid movement.
