He needed a little help with assembling as the handlebar screws have little to no play in them. Twisting motion took a little getting used to (both said they could feel it in their hips and knees for the first week). Only con is no tension adjustment. They do move just slightly but it not a problem during the workout. Very stable and secure. **Q: We purchased one from you on 12/28/12 & the sodered areas in two places have broken. Is there any warranty on this since it's less than a year old?** A: The first one that I purchased, the frame also broke in two places. but it was after two years of hard workouts. We looked around and could not find a better deal on one that we liked, so we bought a second one and it has worked fine so far. On 1/1/14,the second one broke. We have had it 10 months. Obviously , they are a piece of junk. **Q: is it loud?** A: A lot of use bought one and it squeaks LOUD when in use. Even spraying WD40 Silicone based spray on EVERY joint has not worked to silence it. I posted a video with my review. But maybe you'll be a lucky one that gets a quiet one. **Q: Is there a way to tighten the resistance so that each step will be more of a “weighted” work out?** A: Absolutely. Once I had mine set up( which was really easy) I tried it before I adjusted it just to see how it was and it was pretty strong with good resistant. You can turn a knob that will tighten it and make it even much more challenging. It is small and compact. I live in a studio apartment and it fits perfectly. I absolutely love it. The lowest setting is a bit hard for them so they do shorter sessions instead. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ For low cost entry level machine, very good but don't use for long periods *by B***D on July 30, 2024* Based on reviews from several sites, I chose this stair stepper because I wanted the most low-cost, basic, simple, entry-level machine. After a few days, I'd say it fits the bill. While it doesn't have adjustable tension per se, the adjustment of the stair height acts in that capacity. It seems sturdy, although when you are NOT standing on it, be careful to not let it fall forward. The lateral motion is easy to get used to. Not sure if there is a scientific reason for it, but it feels reasonably natural. The counter does what you would expect: time, steps, calories. I'm overall satisfied but there is a CAVEAT that you won't learn about until you purchase the machine. It's not in the description, and it's not in the reviews at other sites: per the instructions, it can only be used for 15 minutes at a time, with a 30 minute rest period between uses. This is so the hydraulics don't burn out. Admittedly, there's no way I could go for longer than 15 minutes right now, but it's a bit cheesy that this issues isn't prominently mentioned. There are two of us, and we had hoped to use the machine sequentially, but now person #2 has to wait 30 minutes before it can be used again. So, this lowers the functionality score to 4 stars. On the surprisingly plus side is the assembly. Being made in China, this product was likely to come with the usual gibberish English that makes no sense. But no! The instructions are actually clear and easy to follow, with good labelling and all the parts necessary (also labelled). The company gets 5 stars for clarity.
